So apparently Nick Menza is collaborating with fellow forum member Widek!

Is it just me or is the drumming on this really basic? Especially his Ride and Hi-hat patterns and accents in the beginning annoy me to the point that I had to actually stop the video for a bit. Doesn't get better in the end as I'm just finding out... Of course the drums aren't blended in with the rest of the music properly in this one but still...

Definitely agree with that. I mean it's a cool gig for Widek for sure, but based on that video the drumming just sounds very uninspired and unmusical really.

And boy do i dislike the sound of those cymbals

Checked the video just now and I kind of agree it doesn't seem to suit the music.

I like it. Did Widek write the drums or is it Menza? If the former, then it's not Menza's fault if you don't like it. If it's the latter then I'm impressed with Menza's ability to play something that works with that sound.

Nick Menza was never really Marco Minnemann so Im not suprised at what on offer here. I think the drums are well played and fit the tune great. You can tell that this is not intended to be a proper mix but that ride cymbal is distracting. Its cool Widek got Menza on board.

Hi Guys! Thanks for your opinions :) Nick recorded his own version, here is the original drums:
I'm really excited because Nick, Mike Lepond bassists of Symphony X and Threat Signal frontman Jon Howard is expected to be joining the next collaboration! It is an honor for me ! :)

Don't know where you guys find fault with this? It's not "AC/DC-basic" and it's not pseudo-complicated either. It pretty much sounds like what Menza has been playing with Megadeth too. I dig it, especially the very straight, long tom fills. Was surprised that with a "drums up"-mix like this, I managed to listen till the end.

I'll comment again when there is a final mix, but for now I stand by my earlier statement. It just seems odd overall.

Congrats on the colab though. That's definitely something to be proud of. :)
