Sucks majorly, a good grands worth on there I think. But alas, time to do a rebuild.

What are your go to bits these days bass players?

One thing he didnt have before is a limiter, so i'm definitely going to be plonking one of those on the end.

That definitely sucks.

For metal my go to stuff is generally 80s Proco Rat -> Sansamp BDI for dirt (with the benefit that you can directly go into any available power amp or board and have a familiar tone) and for some modulation effects I like Boss CH-1 and Boss BF-2 (especially the flanger works really well to get those Isis/Tool kind of tones). Other than that I just use a tuner and sometimes an extra overdrive or digital delay.

Only limiter I tested in a practice/live situation is the old brown Boss limiter with the golden label, but from what I remember that sucked rather badly for fast stuf.

I can recommend the Tech21 VTBass - awesome for straight up direct ampeg tones. Doesn't take pedals in front that well though, but is so great as a standalone unit it's worth it a thousand times.

Just looked up a few clips on youtube of that VTBass pedal. Sounds ridiculous!
I think this is the fastest I've ever been sold on a piece of gear from a couple of sound clips

My bass board for live use consists of the following things:

Planet Waves Tru-Strobe Pedal Tuner > MXR Custom Comp > MXR Bass DI+

I used to have an MXR Classic Overdrive (just a Tubescreamer clone), but it sucked way too much low-end out, so I just went back to the essentials. It gets me a pretty good tone when I run it thru my amp and the two channels of the BDI+ give me lots of versatility. It's also go the DI out if I wanna go straight into the PA (the distortion channel doesn't sound all that great straight into the PA, tho). The compressor is on all the time just because it just makes things sound plain better, lol.

I would LOVE to try a VT Bass... and I would also like to incorporate a second, more tweakable compressor (like the EBS MultiComp or the MXR Bass Compressor) somewhere in the signal for some added fine-tuning of dynamics.

Some sort of Fuzz would also be nice, actually. I'd love some sort of Woolly Mammoth clone.
