Is it me or has this board gone to the shitter? :hotjump:

Whats happening? Not much discussion going on lately. C'mon... I need something to read whilst at work :lol:

Lets talk about the important issues like old times.

* Miss Australia winning

* Langmack and Anderson gone

* My Excitement surrounding the Sept release of the new Pain of Salvation album BE

* Troy. I saw it when it came out. Good movie. Once I got past Eric Bana's accent, I thought he was brilliant in his role as Hector

* Tits. Discuss.

Troy was awesome! I was mildly disappointed with the way the legend was changed to suit Hollywood (Paris surviving, Agammemon and Menelaus getting killed, Agammemon being an arsehole) but other than that, it was cool. Bana was awesome, even if he did sound like he was from Melbourne. And it was nice to see Sean Bean survive a role. :)

Eric Bana made the film for me. He really portrayed Hector as I imagined him. Pitt was quite well-controlled as Achilles too. Sean Bean was great as usual. Peter O'Toole just had to be Peter O'Toole. I thought Bloom's Paris was a bit thin, though.

That could be true. It's interesting that the two big characters Orlando's played (Paris and Legolas) have both had to be fleshed out in screenplays beyond the roles they have in their literary cousins. Legolas does fuck all in the book version of TLOTR but in the films he virtually saves everyone's goat and in the Iliad Paris just stood around looking beautiful most of the time until Apollo whispered in his ear and he threw a spear at Achilles. Then he dies a little bit after that.

I just remembered.....

About 6 months ago, a few of you were raving about how gret this new film (which I had never heard of at the time) VAN HELSING was going to be when it comes out. Spawn inparticular had it on his must see list as one of the only films he's looking forward to in 2004

Now that it is out, I havnt seen one word mentioned about it on these boards. Is it shit?

I enjoyed it, but it wasn't exactly what I was expecting, and it wasn't as good as it could have (and should have) been. The major downfall for me was about the last half hour. Some silly stuff happened towards the end.

That aside, it was still good. I love the way it came across as a gothic old school monster movie, especially at the start.

Van Helsing is ok. Roxburgh hams it up like Vincent Price on steroids. Jackman plays Brendan Fraser from The Mummy. Benny from The Mummy is Igor (almost the same role). David Wenham plays 'M' from James Bond, but dressed up as a monk. Beckinsale plays some sweet butt-kicking tail. You won't shed any tears by not seeing it, though.

I want to see Van Helsing, I think ill enjoy it a lot more seeing as I know ahead of time its a more Indiana Jones style adventure movie than a serious gothic horror movie :)
