Well there it is, what used to be my favorite band has completed their final nail in the coffin for me. First Peter and now Ola.the two guitarists that made the Soilwork sound what it is. I am completely bummed and I seriously doubt that anything good will come out of Soilwork in the future for me...

Swedish metallers SOILWORK, who recently completed the Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage U.S. tour in support of their new album Sworn To A Great Divide, have decided to part ways with guitarist Ola Frenning.
It was felt that Ola resisted the demands of the road and found it difficult to come to terms with the amount of touring scheduled.
Sworn To A Great Divide is SOILWORK's fastest seller and the live demand for the band is growing. They intend to play everywhere and fulfill the album's potential.
Vocalist Björn "Speed" Strid says: "It was a very difficult decision to make because Ola has been our friend and bandmate for a very long time."
The decision will not affect any of SOILWORK's plans. Guitarist David Andersson will fill in on their upcoming Finnish/Baltic tour as well as the "Scum Of The Earth" U.S. tour with THROWDOWN. The band will then tour Australia, Japan and Southeast Asia before returning to Europe for festivals and a headlining U.S. tour in the fall.
Ola Frenning comments: "After 10 years, seven albums and several world wide tours, we've realized that we have developed in different directions and have a different set of values, profession wise. The disagreements have reached their peak and it has become an untenable situation. The band's solution is that I part ways with them so that I won't be in the way for the future plans of SOILWORK. However, since I'm not gonna be on the road (at least for a while), I will now be able to continue with my songwriting and producing at another level. The page will be updated in the near future. Cheers to ya all... And thanks for making these 10 years with the band memorable."

I loved A Predator's Portrait and Natural Born Chaos, but things quickly grew predictable after that. While it's reasonable to expect the band to be impacted negatively by losing it's core, perhaps the new members will breathe some new life into the band.

It's all because of internet piracy that Ola was having disagreements with the band and decided to pursue a career in studio engineering. Those bastards have no idea how much they are hurting the industry.

I don't think they will be hurting at all. There are many bands I love who have replaced great guitarists and ended up becoming better or different in a good way. As long as Soilwork doesn't lose Bjorn or their new drummer, I will be content, because they are the 2 people in the band that blow me away on everything they do. I bet Opeth's new release won't suffer because of new members, just going to come across different with how the new members play their parts, so I can't wait for a new Soilwork album with another new guitarist and see where they go. The only instance of when new members entering a band changed in not the greatest way for me was Vintersorg and his newest disc. I love the new cd, but it doesn't hit me like the 2 previous ones with Asgeir and DiGiorgio on them.

Sucks that he's gone, but when Peter left they put out a better album than the previous one, so perhaps it can happen again.

I totally 100 % disagree that Sworn to a Great Divide is even close to better than Stabbing the Drama, but thats just me :p

I don't think you get it? The original sound of Soilwork is GONE!!! I mean that is the point I am trying to make here....

I see what you're saying, but there's nothing that can be done about that now. But, at least give the new blokes a chance and if it still doesn't grab you then close the door on them. Everyone deserves a second chance.

Soilwork definately sounds different than their early years, but I love their new just as much as the old. They have matured in their songwriting to me and Bjorn as matured as a singer. I'd love for them to do chainheart machine type stuff on a new disc, but to have Bjorn not sing as much as he does now would not be to my liking. I love his screaming/growling, but how can you deny the music that lets his singing shine through and it is not as though their new cds are lame, it is just less technical and less growling and more about the singing and harmonies.
