A friend of mine just acquired this awesome piece of gear, a dedicated rack cab simulator and he's been recording his triple rectifier directly onto that with astonishing results! I'll post a sample soon.

He bought Palmer PGA05 http://www.palmergear.com/pga05.shtml

My question: Is: itt worth?

I think he bought it mainly because Joe Satriani recorded his last album with one to.

Anyone tried or have anything to say against this product?

He definitely bought the 05 (no speaker load), not the 04 (load)? That may cut out the need for mic'ing, but wouldn't he still have to turn the Mesa up a bit too loud for the average apartment?

If you're talking about Super Colossal...he used a Peavey JSX exclusively for the entire album, palmer blended with a mic'ed cabinet throughout. The album before that, "Is There Love in Space?", was a Peavey JSX prototype in a XXX chassis, Marshall JCM's, Fender, and also a Recto was used...all with the Palmer only.

Unless you are talking about the cab simulator, then nevermind about the amp talk. I would get the passive one, that way you don't need a speaker cab to mic up. I've never used it, but I've had sessions sent to me that have used it and it sounds natural, very hard to notice unless somebody tells you it's being used...if done correctly anyway. The active one, as well as being more expensive, requires a cabinet..which makes no sense to me really. With the 04 passive you can plug the head straight into the Palmer, and out from the Palmer into your board/interface. Crank the Mesa as loud as you want and just keep your monitors down to considerate levels for your neighbors :).

Yup, I think it's pga05 and he does have to crank his triple as he would do before to mic it up, but he can control the level that comes out from his palmer into his protools system or so I understood from the chat we had. I still haven't been able to catch with him to ask the sample...

He doesn't need to use a real cab with the palmer but I am almost sure he said it was PGA05?? the album by satch he was talking about was "Is there love in space"

I've heard so many good things about these palmer boxes. I'm tempted to pick one up. unfortunately the only sound samples I've heard were with slipperman dinking around with one, getting mediocre results, and him eventually saying "this D.I. shit is for the birds...fuck it". so I'm a bit hesitant...heheh.

Same hear....when slip was messing around with it sounded like balls.

ok I listened to that clip again on a different system. It really doesn't sound BAD, I just hear that it's direct and react negatively to that. That box sounds better than most direct options I've heard. If you end up with a clip of his recordings including drums and vox etc, please forward it on to us. I've love to hear how it sounds in the fray, possibly much better.
