i`ve heard of people taking bass drum and snare samples from albums and using them in their own projects. my question is, if these samples have already been mastered would they not sound like ass after going through another mastering process?????
If people are doing it regularly, it's probably safe to assume that they are not ruined in the mastering process. Are you worried about them being squashed or something?
that sounds pretty good man!!! i am worried about the dynamics for sure. i don`t think andy would do this, but he would have access to the unprocessed sample..... just doesn`t sound like a good practice, because you would have to apply MORE processing to get the sample to sit in your mix nicely. metal jonesy: did you build your mix around that sample?
nope thats how my mix sounded anyway i wanted to find a snare that suited and complemented it. I had to bring up the high end, gate the reverb on the original sample (so the snare sounds like its totally dead) and add my own, and compress it, granted the fact ive managed to find one sample is kewl, but yeah it can only really be used for in your face stuff as you dont have the dynamics and feel of a multi sampled or real snare, its just for my demo stuff really.

I think you're worrying too much, if it sounds good, it sounds good. Case closed. I heard that Andy/Colin blended in a Pantera kick on a Machine head album or something.
