Song Composing

Just pick an instrument and start playing something... Something that is playing in your head or just start improvising. There's no magic steps to make a song. What might help you a bit is inspiration.

I don't mean I don't know how to do that, I just wanted to hear some experienced views if someone has some special things to point out.

A said, there is no "secret" to making a good song, there are some basic guidelines for every genre though. But one important think is to Think first and then play, not the other way around.

smoke a bit weed and you'll get the greatest songs, written straight from your mind dude

Different people do different things.

Smoking weed for example, makes me want to do nothing, not even play music, so I don't get any shit done.

There are alot of ways to tackle it. Some people write out lyrics and then decide what the music under it will sound like, then try to play agressivly or soft and see what happens.

Writing Jazz songs is super easy because you jsut do a choard progession and solo over it for however the fuck long :D.

Anyway, try a bunch of different ways to write songs, if something works stick to it, but try to put a bit of variety so the songs don't all end up the same.

IF you know alot about what you are doign it Makes it a whole lot easier to compose different things, adds alot of variety to your stuff.

Again, not really. Knowing exactly what you're doing can make you a very limited player/composer. Like me, I know all the keys/scales/modes and everything diatonic. It can end up sounding pretty boring if there's nothing unique or out of the ordinary sounding because you know what to expect.

Obviously, there is an art to getting diatonic stuff sounding good but if you're always correcting yourself, it'll be harder to come across "mistakes" and "bad" notes that actually end up sounding better than whatever it was that you meant to play.

^Exactly. That's why i said think first and then play. By just playing, you will probably only get out what you have in your muscle memory.

of course you have to think.. stop stating the obvious

its all a matter of what ones perception of what sounds good

theres a fine line between sounding good and bad
