Sonic Syndicate – Only Inhuman

Sonic Syndicate are, yawn, a melodic death metal band from, yawn, Sweden that are highly influenced by the Gothenberg sound such as In, yawn, Flames, Soilwork, Darkane, well you name it really. The band have no identity of their own, bringing nothing new to the table and while they are more or less enjoyable, they are also coma inducing in their banality.
After somehow winning a competition by Nuclear Blast, the band were signed to the label to produce a new album. The result of which is Only Inhuman. The front cover seems to depict a fly taking a shit. This, apparently, is the only type of poo that flies aren't attracted to. How apt then, that this album should be avoided in the same manner. The production job, as ever, is dead sexy. But it's a bit like going to Thailand on holiday and realising one of the 'hot girls' you are chatting up are not as they seem. There are a couple of good tracks here such as 'Enclave' and 'Only Inhuman' but really it all merges into one. This is the Euro-metal equivalent of Warrant: they look great but are destined to be a flash in the pan.
