Although I must admit, I have not really heard much of Swedish melodic death metal band Souldrainer before; I'm very impressed with this album, Reborn. By checking out some of their earlier albums, it seems fairly obvious that they haven't lost any of the talent that got them signed to begin with. The vocals, guitar and bass riffs are incredibly strong throughout, and the production is spot on. The beginning song 'First Row in Hell', sounds a little like a more melancholic Amon Amarth tune (think ‘Hermod's ride to Hel’) mixed with a little Cradle of Filth-esque background style special effects, while the next track 'Internal Suicide', sounds like a black metal/funkyKorn type tune with operatic background vocals mixed with Black Label Society-esque wails! (I never thought I would say this in an album review!!)!!

I was most impressed and don't get me wrong, whether these are genuine influences or not, the album keeps you hooked with its evocative music, strangely upbeat rhythms(for death metal), melodic piano harmonies and provocative lyrics. I find it extremely encouraging that a band that has been classed as melodic death metal seems to have such a wide variety of influences and draws upon such varying musical styles, which really brings them out of the genre that fans seem to have placed them in. Definitely an album worth buying if this is your chosen music style!

This album kicks ass. Epic keys, headbanging guitar riffs, sweet solos, amazing vocals.

Kick ass album period.
