I'm just about to finish up the mix of the sound for a short film. Can anyone recommend some articles on this? I'm mostly looking for where my audio levels should reside. Of course, I want it to be "hollywood" loud but I don't want there to be distortion on DVD playback.

I did read on gearslutz that you should limit your peaks at -0.3 as a safeguard because of variable output from different source playback.

I plan on using L2 but I'm just unsure of the best way to use it in this situation

Yep, good plan. The other reason is because any broadcast facility that receives media that peaks over that standard is automatically thrown out, no questions asked.
