Hello! I just recently started messing around with switching from clean to distorted, but I was also looking for a new sound that I could use for most of my guitars. I bought the Boss ML-2 while I was deployed for use on a crap fender amp which was fine for the purpose. Hooking it up to my Line 6 Spider II amp doesn't do it much justice though. The amp's preset distortion channel is good for my Edwards guitars, but that's about it. Anything else on it sounds a little flat and doesn't quite ring out or give you any good metal chug to go with it. My pedal produces feedback on my amp and of course using the gain booster any of the Edwards makes it worse. I don't post in forums much, so I'm sorry if I'm acting like a newb. Thanks for any help you can provide!

You probably should have invested some of the money you spent on getting every possible alexi signature guitar in an actually good sounding amp.

I guess you're right about the guitars. I went a little guitar crazy on both deployments. Anyways, I had an old Crate amp that did the job pretty well and I never really had to mess with any settings. The second I played one of the Alexi guitars on it, feedback like you wouldn't believe. So I bought the one above off of a friend for $350 and it's worked pretty well up until now. Now I'm in the mood to sell some crap, so what is going to be a good amp for metal right out of the box? Something, lets say $1000 or less?

peavey 6505! theres a bargain out there which i have too, its the peavey 6505 112 combo which is very cheap for what you get. maybe its too much W for playing in a room so if you feel you need so later, buy an attenuator. with that you can play at home or live, and its an amazing amplifier... this is my opinion

you can also get a cheaper one which i also suggest that is the blackstar ht-5, which is a "home playing only" amp due to the only 5watt it has, but still great.

in my opinion, both are 10000 better than that line6 spider you have...

You son of a bitch... you spent all that money on those guitars (btw, nice collection) but didn't invest in a good amp??? Sell two of those guitars and buy a new amp with the money.

Nice guitar collection!

You deff need to get a tube amp of sorts to really get the most out of your collection. I went from Spider amp to tube amp and while there are great solid state amps out there I will never go back to one.

Bugera makes decent cheap amps for metal.

Egnator is also a fairly new company making some really nice small tube amps.

And as mentioned above the Peavy combo is a great amp for metal tones.

These guys have no clue what they're talking about. You definitely need another guitar (or maybe two) to get a better sound! Good luck, bro!

PS:
Line 6 :puke:

the bugera is a cheaper version of the peaveys jsx and 6505. plus has much more watts which if my amp of 60w is too much for a room, a 120w its absolutely impossible to play at home, only with an attenuator and u´ll buy an amp only for live playing

Yes, but I am pretty sure some of the bugeras have a pentode/triode switch on the back, which allows it to run at full power(pentode 120w) or half power(triode 60w) My Bugera V22 has one so I can play at 22w or 11 watts. Great feature.

And the new Bugera Tri-Rec has a rotary knob on the back that allows you to have the amp at 1w-100w. Very cool feature.

wow! didnt know that! thats quite a future!
btw is the v22 good for metal?

I have 5 guitars, been playing for 9 years an I have a 15w practice amp and the Korg PX4, if he wants all those guitars then let him have them for fuck sake.

Yes and no.

By itself it is more of a blues/rock amp that is vintage voiced. I would say more old school Marshall sounding than anything.

But plug in a 4x12 and put a tube screamer in front along with the eq and you can coax some pretty good metal tones from it. Nothing crushing and new school, but more along the lines or Iron Maiden or Megadeth. It can do CoB tones pretty well too. I love it.

So many times I have saved up to get my dream head (Marshall 2203KK) and cab (Marshall 1960a), but I just love the tone I get with the Bugera and it is plenty loud for me at home, so I see no need to upgrade.

I have to say thanks for the advice that everyone has given. I looked at a few different amps, the peavy 6505, a couple bugera amps, I'm still not sure what to get. I guess I'll have to do some research. In the past I never really needed to adjust my sound. But going from say one of the alexi's to the blade it just sounds like shit. The more I play with the sound, the more I hate the amp. I live in an apartment, so I can't turn it up too loud. I occasionally jam with a few friends and I still need an amp that is plenty loud. Like I said before, I don't know much about tone. All I've ever done is get a nice deep metal sound out of any amp and that's it. The Line 6's built in distortion is good, however hooking that pedal up to it makes a sort of hollow sounding tone. Which doesn't give me the full in your face tone. As for selling guitars, that's not happening I worked hard to acquire all of them. The only ones I would consider selling are the cheaper ones but I doubt I'd get any money for them since they're all beat to hell. Not to mention ripping the pickups out of the blue jackson...

I have 13 guitars and 3 amps and I've been playing for 10,5 years.
