wheres a good place to start i've been looking here http://www.soundproofing.org/ but there seems to be a lot of Bullshit on there
im in a loud metal band who also has a family and alot of shit to hang on the wall to put it bluntly. it doesn't have to be the most expensive way just somehow to stop alot of the vibrations and shit.

I feel like pounding on the webmaster.
That site gives me the creeps.

Soundproofing and acoustics are two different subjects (but closely related).

Soundproofing requires mass and sealing so that sound does not escape nor is coming through to a room. This gets expensive quick. (NoDestiny said it in a nutshell)

Acoustics is hanging shit on the wall :p to control flutter echoes, bass and stuff like that which affect how we hear things inside the room. This can be done cost effectively, if you know how.

Sorry if I lecture here a bit, but it's important to know what you want/need and are talking about. Here are some links.
