Damn, that POD sounds real good. I've been hearing several clips like that one lately that make me want and XT real bad. I love my Engl Fireball and Mesa cab, but I have a hard time getting an acurate recording of it with my p.o.s. Fostex.

Believe me, if you think a POD sounds better than a mic'ed up Fireball running a Mesa, then you'd be better off investing time and money deadening the room you record in, studying mic'ing techniques, getting different mics, good mic preamps and converters!

People have done some really nice tones on XT's, but they still don't compare to the real deal.

I agree the POD does sound cool and it's handy for direct recording like we're using it, but we play it through a DSL 2000 when not recording and it doesn't sound as good. Don't get me wrong, it still sounds pretty crunchy, but the tone is just not as good unless you're plugging it straight into my laptop.

Hell we're not even using all the capabilities of the POD at this time, but it is still just a modeler. There is no substition for the real thing.

I don't think it sounds better than my rig, I said it sounds better than a recording I can get of my rig with shitty gear and a room that's not suited to recording at all. I just think it would be an easier recording solution right now, by no means a subsitute for my rig (which I love).
Since youn mentioned mics, I've got a 57 and a Sennheiser E609 Silver, so I've at least got that taken care of. Now I just have to deal with all the other factors.

I would never consider using a POD for a live tone, tube amps with a good 4x12 are the only way to go live.

That's kinda where we're at. The stuff I mic'd sounded like shit. Plus I had to use a ton of Hiss and NOise reduction. The POD is perfect for recording us right now--no noise or hiss--very little clean up to do. In fact we're using the Brit-800 amp model which is based on a Marshall. Go figure. :)
