Soundgarden was around long before the term "grunge" was ever used, and before anyone ever knew that there was a "scene" in Seattle. They used to get played quite often on the local Heavy Metal radio station that I use to listen to back in the late 80's. Everyone I knew considered them a hard rock/ heavy metal band. Then Nirvana broke big, and MTV decided that since Soundgarden was from Seattle, they must be grunge.

T first, I looked at tehm as a great 70's influenced band. Then latter..with BLACK HOLE SUN.....grunge, or maybe even mainstream.

I never liked NIRVANA........NEVER

Yep, so true. They are metal in my book.

soundgarden was grunge. you can tell they were very influenced by sabbath, zeppelin and AC/DC.

sabbath was responsible for influencing many genres........listen to STPs 1st album, and AIC..... good grunge. these bands sound just as good as they did when i was 14.

i used to be REALLY into nirvana and pearl jam 10 yrs ago but have since lost interest for that, i like heavier stuff.

one thing that pissed me off about soundgarden was that they WERE metal(as grungy as they were)............and so many bands denounced metal, or being influenced by it in the mid 90s(which they did)
