Speed metal.

Maybe Hibria, Adramelch, Helstar, and Holy Martyr. I'm not exactly sure how those bands sounded in their early days, but the bands I listed are pretty good power/speed/heavy metal bands.

I'm also gonna throw out The Lord Weird Slough Feg if you haven't already heard of them, just because they do have some folk/power metal tendencies within their traditional, usually fast, heavy metal.

grinders debut has the early bg sound that you're looking for

mania(ger) for the early helloween rec.

The first two might be a bit too modern sounding for what you're looking for but...

Not mind blowing but fairly decent, plus the album's a free download from their website. Their next albums went in a less speed and more power metal direction, and aren't as good. Conquest from Ukraine:

Know of those Veloci.
@justin, yeah it's a little modern for what I'm looking for, singer reminds me Kai Hansen though in the Conquest one.
