Not a fan of prog bands leading with 4/4 singles. It's a good tune but I don't want a radio song to be the first thing I hear from a band that I associate with significant wankery. It fucks with my reality :p Circus Maximus pulled the same stunt. Turns out that was actually a fairly good indicator of what almost half the album would end up sounding like though. Hmmm...

I actually really enjoyed Nine, not as hopeful about this though. :(

oh I have nothing against Nine. I was listening to it earlier today. It's a kickass album. It's just 50/50 AOR and Prog instead of only a couple of AOR tunes like the first 2. I'm definitely gonna pick up this album at ProgPower if it's there. If there's hella keyboards like the last 3, I'm down.

Don't get your hopes up for this. As much as I am trying to like it, its really not very good. Way different than Anima and anything they have done in the past. I'm sorry too.

On the contrary, the early reviews have been excellent from those that have heard the full album, the band is bridging a lot of genre's outside of of Prog metal, but they certainly are not letting down the progressive metal fan doing it, just expanding the genre! Here are the first two reviews I've found.

I agree Lance, I just finished my review for The Metal Pit, here's a teaser: "The final track on the album, “My Heart on the Cross” infuses electronica, metal, prog, melody, and a modern style that would make some of today’s mainstream acts envious. I think I’ll send this particular track to Linkin Park with a note saying “You Wish”."

Well, I'm going to lean on this post instead of the others because I really like this band and have been looking forward to their next release. Hope you're right, Lance.

so this album is out on Spotify. I just gave it a full listen. A word of caution to anyone planning on purchasing this based on their previous releases: LISTEN TO IT FIRST. This album is a full-on melodic metal album. Every single song is 4/4. Not a single sequence of meter changes in the entirety of the album. The big sweeping keyboards of the first 2 albums are gone, replaced with sparse staccato lead keys. None of those distinctly French chord changes are left. This is a melodic metal album with electronic influences. Keep that in mind.

Pretty upset reading this considering I'm in an Anima shirt and underwear.

Upsetting indeed. People that buy this expecting prog are in for a rude awakening.

I've listened to this new disc a few times. Yes, it's totally different from their earlier efforts with it's simple song structures, lack of solos, different vocal style, etc.. For these reasons, I understand the criticism. However, I think it's an excellent album. It takes some getting used to of course, being a total departure, but Circus Maximus' latest release is also a radical change in style for them( I think) and people are still loving it.Pagan's Mind and Symphony X also are less "prog" with their latest releases too. I think people are being too hard on S.U.E.
