I note with interest that you're reading DLR's autobiography at the moment. What does he have to say about the initial split with VH, and the odds of getting back together at some point?

I've read about all this in "Van Halen- Excess All Areas" by Malcolm Dome (Castle Communications 1994), but it'd be nice to hear a first hand account.

I've just gotten to the bit where he talks about leaving the band. He doesn't actually say what caused the split (unless I missed it), but he doesn't say many nice things about Eddie and the boys! To be honest I don't really like Dave after reading the book (more than halfway through at the moment), seems VERY up himself... Gene Simmons seems like a genuinely humble guy next to him!

And really, it's not a proper autobiography - it's more a collection of thoughts on various things - Israel, backstage parties, bootleggers, stalkers, lots of other stuff. A good read, but he's such an overbearing git it gets a bit tiresome after a while :)

No, I wasn't very familiar with Diamond Dave before I read the book. I only really bought it because I was in the mood for a rock & roll biography and it was cheap.
