There is a new movie at the cinemas (selected I think) this month from Christopher Guest called 'A Mighty Wind"

Guest’s latest fake documentary focuses on a folk concert organised to pay tribute to legendary music producer and founder of the so-called Folktown label, the late Irving Steinbloom. For the concert, Steinbloom’s son, Jonathan (Bob Balaban) brings together three big-time acts of the ‘60s, including The Folksmen trio (played by Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer) and the New Main Street Singers, a group of nine with a squeaky clean image despite the fact that one of their members, Laurie (Jane Lynch) is an ex-porn star and she and her husband, Terry (John Michael Higgins) have founded a weird kind of witch cult which has something to do with colour vibrations! Finally, there’s Jonathan’s biggest coup – Mitch & Mickey (Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara) a one-time romantic duo whose split up caused Mitch to crack up.

While Jonathan – who has no idea about putting on a show - exasperates the producer (with concerns like whether the theatre’s foyer floral arrangement could poke out someone’s eye!) – the “stars” reminisce about the past and their careers as they prepare for their big night in the spotlight again – a one-off event that is being televised live on public television. There is even a sense of suspense generated by the unhappy and confused Mitch who, we suspect, may have been released from mental care too soon. When Mitch goes walkabout our worst fears are realised.

Each member of Guest’s priceless cast contributes at least one funny, insightful moment – even when playing it straight like Catherine O’Hara as Mickey who has broken Mitch’s heart and is now married to a man who works in what she describes as “the bladder control industry.” For those who have appreciated Guest’s previous work (which also includes This is Spinal Tap, that he co-wrote but did not direct, and Waiting For Guffman) A Mighty Wind is another breath of fresh air.

It stars, among others, the 3 core members from Spinal Tap, Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer. I had a look at the trailer, and it looks really funny. There is a scene on the trailer clip with an interview with the 3 spinal tap guys, and you can just sense the improvisation taking over. I cant wait. Brilliant!

hahaha, The Folksmen are brilliant, I saw them on RETURN OF SPINAL TAP!

Holy shit, I want to see this film! Bloody live in Mildura :(

Well, the Spinal Tap team was Rob Reiner, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer and Michael McKean, and I think this one only has Guest and McKean. I'm sure this'll be great though. :)

Cool! :) But Christopher Guest (I think) is the only one from that bunch who are writing and directing it. So there. :)

Unless I'm wrong. But I'm pretty sure I'm right.
