Spiritual Beggars: Yea or Nay?

Totallly YEA
They have the more authentic and pure hard rock sound, since the 70s. Their music is the dream of every lover of the absolute combination of heavy riffs and hammond. The best musical moments of the 70s golden bands like Ufo, Captain Beyond, Grand Funk Railroad, with a more dynamic and "modern" production. "Ad Astra" is already a classic heavy/hard rock masterpiece. But then again all their albums can be considered heavy rock/metal monuments. They are in the top 5 bands in the world right now and the absolute leaders of their scene.
p.s. ur avatar FUCKIN rules (-mom is my nose big? You are always thinking about sex)

Thank you for your affirmation, IOftheStorm. Yea indeed. Your description of the band is dead on. Much better than any of my feeble attempts. I tried to turn an older guy in his 50s onto them last year and the best description I could come up with at the time was: 90s Swedish neo/retro stoner rock. Heh, neo/retro? What was I thinking?!

I mentioned the Hammond bit as well because that's such an important part of the sound, but they're more than just guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and vox. They have the whole 70s vibe going with with artwork, too. They're great! Never seen them live. Have you? I wish they'd tour North America!

I never got a response back from the older guy. I figure he either really liked them a lot and didn't want to admit it, or else those CD copies became drink coasters.

I thought they were a typical Stoner Rock band before listening to them, but now I happen to like them, from what I heard... so they probably don't play Stoner music :p
They have this very cool 70s vibe...

yes they have nothing to do with the so called "stoner" scene and i HATE it when some people put call them stoner.
Never seen them live. Have you?
Twice
First time : November 2000, they RULED. I was lucky to see them before Spice left.
Second time: March: 2003, they kicked ASS again, with JB who is great (and i recommend his main band - GRAND MAGUS which is more monolithic heavy/doom metal influenced by Black Sabbath and Pentagram (and a little bit of Manowar and Bathory!)
For everyone who is interested their official fan club has its base on Greece :

Oh well. You're probably right. That stuff about joints and pills and booze. Nah. They're not stoner. :Spin:

So, some lyrics determine their MUSICAL genre ? nice ...
:hypno: I wouldn't say the whole 70s scene was stoner but, like, d00d, a lot it was! Drug usage was a big part of that culture, or counter-culture if you prefer. We cannot and should not sweep it under the rug just because the mainstream attitude today is anti-drug. That would be ludicrous. Uhhhm...

wait a minute. Now that I think about it the world is ludicrous so nevermind.

Seriously though, the stoner aspect is just as much a part of the vibe as the artwork. Remember?

Anyway, it's only a genre (or subgenre?) title, right? I noticed that the Beggars updated their home page and they call themselves HEAVY rock. Okiedoke. That's fine by me. I don't want to quarrel over something as trivial as a genre title, do you? Oh, and they're supposed to be working on something new soon. YAY! :-)

Here... have some goodies and celebrate with me. I absolutely LOVE this stuff.
