Steve Albini on Recording Drums (TapeOp Con 2005)

Saw that the other day. Quite a useful little video. I've definitely been pulling my tom mics a bit off the drums more recently (at least for non-metal) and double micing them whenever I can. Makes a BIG difference to have two tom mics.

He definitely doesn't record drums the way most people do, especially as far as we think about metal drums, but god damn. Neurosis + Steve Albini are some of my absolute favorite drums ever. So natural and huge sounding.

Good find. I love his work. It's very unique and the guy knows what he's doing.
