STONE TEMPLE PILOTS have something "new and spectacular coming up" in the near future. Drummer Eric Kretz spoke about the band's plans during a brand new interview with Sweden's RockSverige. He said: "We're always up to something now that we run on all four cylinders. We have the 'Purple' 25th anniversary coming up, and that whole package will be coming out in the fall. And we have something new and spectacular coming up, but that's all I can say about that. [Laughs] Right now we're just busy touring in Europe and Israel and then we go back for a tour with RIVAL SONS and do a late summer, early fall package with them." It is not presently clear if the "new and spectacular" project Kretz was referring to is the acoustic record that STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer Jeff Gutt recently revealed that the band was working on. Gutt, a 43-year-old Michigan native who spent time in the early-2000s nu-metal act DRY CELL, among other bands, and was a contestant on "The X Factor", joined STONE TEMPLE PILOTS in 2017 after beating out roughly 15,000 hopefuls during an extended search that began more than a year earlier. Original STONE TEMPLE PILTOS singer Scott Weiland, who reunited with the group in 2010 after an eight-year hiatus but was dismissed in 2013, died in December 2015 of a drug overdose. Chester Bennington, who joined STP in early 2013, departed nearly three years later to spend more time with his main band LINKIN PARK. Bennington committed suicide in July 2017. STONE TEMPLE PILOTS and RIVAL SONS will co-headline a North American tour this fall. The 12-city tour will kick off in Baltimore on September 13, with stops in Philadelphia, New York City, New Orleans and more, before wrapping up in STONE TEMPLE PILOTS' former hometown of San Diego on October 9. The reissue of STONE TEMPLE PILOTS' "Purple", in commemoration of the album's 25th anniversary, will be out September 13.
