new/first mix, it's the only track on the player... "The Passing Phase"

some of you may remember my solo from this from my youtube vid where i was tracking it. now you finally get to hear Peter Wichers' solo that's right after mine. the first solo in the song is Mike Iuzzolino, which some of you may know from his popular youtube vids.

Produced by Peter and myself, mixed by me. no label yet, but fingers crossed.

mix perhaps not final yet.. remains to be seen.

^feel free to spill it... i really love the snare, it's what it really sounded like in person.. but in modern "standards" everyone wants such a hard sample all the time... that bothers me, but i've capitulated to that expectation in the past, and will likely do so again. is the snare your issue?

Edit: sorry, i misread your post at first, nvm. glad you're digging it.

Heh, yeah, definitely didn't mean there's anything wrong with the mix :) It sounds excellent, I just hesitate making any judgements based on the MySpace compression. Be sure to let us know when the album is out, this band seems like an interesting acquaintance!

yeah, the rest of the album is quite good as well... lots of killer songs. i have to admit i'm anticipating some flak about the snare sound, and may have to change it via stronger sample enhancement before all is said and done, to make some people that may end up having a say in the matter happy. i'm on the fence about this myself, but i do think i captured what the snare actually sounded like, and made it work well in this mix that you hear on the player now, regardless of whether i have to change it later or not.

Dammit James, you gotta stop working on these badass projects or at least stop making them sound so good. I'm going to go broke in the iTunes store

Wasn't totally captured by the music to be honest. Wasn't bad at all, but neither was I flat out wowed by it either. But this was my initial impressions anyway.
But I gotta say you've really honed your mixing skills to a great level James, great mix and honestly I didn't mind the snare. Wasn't the best snare I've ever heard, but it was definitely still good.

The keyboards were pretty gay, otherwise I dig it.

Yikes... it's the keyboardist's band... he wrote all the music.. and had no problem with me making his parts fairly understated... and he's reading this thread.... ouch. lol (don't be sad Jonah, =] )

anyway... yeah.. nothing gay about the keyboards... you just either like keyboards or you don't... but this album may not be for you if you don't.. cuz like i said, it's the keyboardist's band, and there's plenty keys throughout.

;)

Very nice. I like it a lot!

Keyboards fit the song nicely in my opinion. Lovely solo, and the snare isn't overbearing or anything. I find it complements the rest of the mix.

Cool song, awesome melodies. :headbang:

Just wanted to stop in and say that I'm one of the guitarists in this band, and that you should all check out the album when it comes out, because it will rule. :headbang:

I was about to mention that^ :kickass:

Brandon is a ridiculous guitar player, despite the fact that he wont admit it. He's probably in the top 5 lead players I have even seen in person, and he wasn't even showing off!

Also, I do think the snare could use a little bit of sample blending. I would like a bit more bite on those guitars as well.

The mix is well filled out, yet remains spacious. Nice work, James.
