Been listening to this on repeat at work for the last couple of days and I must say its the most refreshing and interesting album I have heard in a while! its fantastic!

Great work!

Out of interest, have you had any formal training in music? the composition seems really high level and something I would love to be able to achieve! any tips you can give me?

Klinkt goed man!
Als je ooit een zanger zoekt, bied ik me bij deze aan :)
Will keep that in mind!

First of all thanks again! means a lot.
I'm basically self thought on composition, it mostly comes down to awareness of what you are doing/writing. Analyse the music you dig, figure out what is happening and try to make something of it your own.

Let's go more in depth here with an example:

A few years i learned an transition trick (or modulation?) for an example:

You play something in C minor, and you want to go F minor, to most going from C minor to F minor instantly and using the F minor as your new root sounds weird. So what i learned (trying to memorize where i heard it the first time but it's done a lot) was in theory C major is the V chord of Fm.

So instead of going from C minor to F minor instantly i figured out a lot of composers did this:

C minor - C major - E dim - F minor.

At the song Absolution @ 1:13 (last track of my solo album) I do this constantly over and over again till i'm at the root i wanted to be (which was from C minor to F# Minor)

So what i did was taking my I chord (Cm) making it major so in perspective it changed to an V of Fm (which was going to be my new I chord) and once i was on Fm did the same thing. Fm became F major so becoming the V dominant chord of the next etc.

What i am basically trying to say is to be aware of what is going on, it doesn't need to be in theory even your "fret" vision is a sort of theory knowing what is happening. Almost all music in modern western culture comes from Bach, Stravinsky so analyzing stuff like that makes you (well, it made me :D) understand what is going on and how to keep stuff interesting (for yourself).

Stuff i recommend:

The Dark Knight Film Score by Hans Zimmer aand that other dude.
Bach
Chopin.

Fuck it, all composers :D

Don't know if this stuff helped, it comes down to figuring stuff out lol.

You must have put endless hours into this album during these 7 years.

Can you elaborate on how you achieved your sound for each instrument ?
I am mainly interested in your rhythm guitar sound and the drums.

Thanks,
T
