According to The Pulse Of Radio, SUM 41 frontman Deryck Whibley revealed in a recent interview with England's Kerrang! magazine that musicians and fellow recovering addicts and alcoholics like Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum from GUNS N' ROSES, MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee and rock legend Iggy Pop have been helping him stay sober after Whibley nearly died from liver and kidney failure earlier this year. Whibley explained, "Now I'm sober, I don't get calls from certain people that I used to . . . the drinking friends. Now I'm the burn-out to them. Who wants to invite the sober guy to the party? Y'know who has been incredibly supportive? Iggy Pop. He had a lot of great advice; he's been through it all. We've been friends for years."Whibley added, "Same for Tommy Lee from MÖTLEY CRÜE. He told me what to expect from people, that not everyone will understand. Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum from GUNS N' ROSES have been great too. We go out for coffee and talk about shit."Whibley landed in intensive care for a month this past May when his liver and kidneys collapsed due to his excessive drinking.He wrote that the experience "scared me straight. I finally realized I can't drink anymore. If I have one drink the docs say I will die."The singer recently said he was starting to work on new music again. SUM 41's last album was 2011's "Screaming Bloody Murder", which came out a year after Whibley's divorce from Avril Lavigne.
