Summer has started to reach us even here in the land of the midnight sun, and once again I come to realize that most of my music is best suited to dark winters, angsty autumns, slaughterhouses, dream landscapes and faraway galaxies.

I have two requests: First of all, I want music fit for peaceful walks among the flowers in sunshine, but remember, just because the sun shines that doesn't mean life isn't horrible and that we aren't all gonna die a horrible death and then be tortured eternally in a burning hell that doesn't really exist because death is eternal nonexistence, because that is exactly what's going to happen. Anyway, my point is, it doesn't have to be upbeat and happy. It should just be something you find fitting for the brighter side of the year for whatever reason.

And my second request; Since it's getting warmer outside, I ought to start training more. So tell me what music you like running to.

Both metal and non-metal is fine.

Dead Can Dance have some atmospheric songs that are nice for running. Some are more peaceful like Towards The Within and The Spider's Stratagem which are both from the album Into The Labyrinth.

I also recommend The English Beat.

For running anything with a steady tempo is good. Amon Amarth - Victorious March works great.
Kataklysm's latest also would. Not all that great, though.

As for summer music I guess you could try Alcest and Agalloch.

Familiar with all your recs, WAIF. Also, I'd appreciate it if you did not suggest single songs. I'm not gonna run for 6 minutes, I'll be running for 30+ minutes, probably.

I like to run to speed and thrash metal. Motorhead is particularly great.

If you're talking non-metal though, there are a lot of rootsy classic rock bands like the Grateful Dead, Ten Years After and the Doobie Brothers which I associate very strongly with summer. I wouldn't run to any of that though - not enough energy.

Melodic Death Metal in general is usually really good for running, so is anything with a groove.

edit: Just throwing this out there, running for extended (I would consider 30 minutes at the low end of extended) periods of time is bad for the knees long term.

edit#2: Military cadences suck for real training. They are generally done at a 8 minute mile pace (for the purpose of formation runs, which involve everyone of various physical abilities), which is garbage for personal training.

Music I run to:
Insomnium
Ebony Tear's Debut
Dawn of Solace
Pig Destroyer
Rapture
All Shall Perish

Other rec:
Disillusion - back to times of splendor (especially the song, a day by the lake which is believe is exactly what you're looking for)
Drudkh's Autumn Aurora
The Morningside

My mile times actually undergo a noticeable improvement when I listen to The Four Horsemen while running.

It's really not though. I restrict my running to 20 minutes for heart/knee health, and just seek to increase distance under that time limit. My best ever was 3 miles in 20 minutes.

I have a specific distance that I run. Changing this distance would be inconvenient. I hope to do it in less than 30 minutes when in better shape, but I am not in good shape at the moment. Either way, I will still be running for more than 6 minutes.

ya and I just run till fatigue, but enjoy every painful minute of it. I usually run around a track .5 mile in length and at one point in the track there is a log about 3 ft high i jump over.
