Gentlemen, this is to be the first mix I have submitted for your critique. It is the final 2 of minutes from one of the tracks on the EP I'm recording for my band, Advent Sorrow. I'm rather chuffed with how it's turning out, all things considered.

As usual, I'd love to hear any criticism and/or suggestions. I'll be working over the weekend to finish the orchestration and piano sections before we start tracking vocals next week, so I'll post the whole track if anyone cares to hear more.

Cheers!

hmm, the guitars are WAY too low in the mix for my taste. it always bugs me when symphonic metal bands lower the guitars in order to make space for orchestral stuff. i think guitars should definitely be more prominent, and orchestra made less prominent, so it creates an eerie background atmos. just think in sorte diaboli :P i think the way it is ends up leaving me wanting way more heaviness.

also, the drums arent really mixed very well, if ill be honest. the kick drums hogs all of the mid frequencies, when it should probably (at least, for this type of metal) have alot of lows, alot of highs, and only a little smidge of mids.

also, for the snare, i think remove some of the mids, and add some highs, it sounds quite boxxy.

i would give more advice on the guitar mix, but as i said, theyre too quiet, so i cant hear them well enough right now to give mixing tips for them :P
