sure 57 beta 57

Most everyone seems to pick the SM57 (meaning, from EVERY mic'd cab pic in a pro studio I've ever seen), along with the MD421 and Royer R121

We tried the SM57, SM58 and Beta57 on soundcheck for our album recordings. Out of the three, the Beta clearly sounded the worst for micing guitar cabs. Too aggressive (not in a good way) and bright, indeed.

Sm57 is cardiod and beta 57 is supercardiod.

The beta will pickup more from behind than the sm will. I am actually surprised someone said they like it on snare due to this fact but hey whatever works.

that be me.
you just gotta be careful with placement

SM57 usually sounds better
Beta57 was used on testament the gathering with a triple rec.
You can try the Beta as a secondary mic to the SM57 blended in lower in the mix.
