Got this idea from talking with VVVVV on AIM. No Gothenburg please, and no tech-death like Anata or Spawn of Possession (as much as I love them both). I'd prefer to keep this in the general vicinity of that "typical swedish death metal style"

Basically just to discuss all the awesomeness the Swedish death metal scene has to offer. Turn people onto the hidden gems, and the obvious, get more love for this amazing death metal scene pumped in here.

Here's some of my favorites that are fairly overlooked/underrated by most death metal fans.

Excruciate - Passage of Life
Cemetary - An Evil Shade of Grey
Utumno - Across the Horizon
Uncanny - Splenium for Nyktophobia
Furbowl - Those Shredded Dreams
Kaamos - Kaamos
Repugnant - Epitome of Darkness
Bloodstone - Hour of the Gate
Necrovation - Breed Deadness Blood
Carbonized - For The Security
Necrony - Pathological Performances
Demiurg - Breath of the Demiurg (this one might be a bit more obvious)

For the record my favorite SweDM albums are:
Dismember - Demos & Like an Ever Flowing Stream
Necrophobic - Demos, The Nocturnal Silence & Darkside
Unanimated - In The Forest of the Dreaming Dead & Ancient God of Evil
Seance - Fornever Laid to Rest & Saltrubbed Eyes
Carnage - Dark Recollections
Tribulation - The Horror

Discuss away.

Used to be my favourite style of metal a few years ago, and I came pretty close to burning myself out on most of the full-lengths from the early 90s.

A few of my favourites these days:

Merciless - The Awakening
Dissection - The Somberlain
God Macabre - The Winterlong
Crypt of Kerberos - The Macrodex of War
Darkified - A Dance on the Grave
Therion - Beyond Sanctorum
Edge of Sanity - Unorthodox
Unanimated - Ancient God of Evil
Necrophobic - The Nocturnal Silence
Gorement - The Ending Quest
At the Gates - The Red in the Sky is Ours
Tiamat - The Astral Sleep

I would disagree on Demiurg being obvious, but that album (AND ONLY THAT ALBUM FUCK THE HATE CHAMBER) is fucktacular. I'll think of more and post soon.

Never given that much of a chance, tbh.

Necrovation is probably one of the best modern bands doing this kind of thing, btw. More care should be given to discussing the modern iterations of this sound.

Tribulation is definitely my favorite modern swe-dm band. I love The Horror so much, and their Putrid Rebirth EP is great too.

Anybody who has NOT heard The Horror needs to get on that NOW.

At The Gates - The Red in the Sky is Ours
Cemetary - An Evil Shade of Grey
Cardinal Sin - Spiteful Intents
Necrophobic - The Nocturnal Silence
Carnage - Dark Recollections
Carbonized - For the Security
Uncanny - Splenium for Nyktphobia
Utumno - Across the Horizon (imo the greatest Swedish death metal EP of all time)
Eucharist - A Velvet Creation
Sorcery - Bloodchilling Tales

We've already discussed euro DM and all these albums a billion times in the Death Metal thread over recent years. Gems and even demo's. Maybe go in the Death Metal thread.

Came across Verminous - Impious Sacrilege today. Great album.

Piano intro is until about 2:02 or so btw if you want to skip it.

Yeah, I like it better than Slumber of Sullen Eyes and Nespithe, although I will probably be crucified for saying so. I could honestly listen to this album all day every day.

I don't like it as much as you, but I still think it's a damn good album. One of the better lesser known bands to come out of the swedish scene for sure.
