Symphony X Anyone?

LOL......Confessor Symphony X is more than power metal, they have awesome talent you can't deny that, but i value your opinion.

i think it's unfair to label symphony x as power metal. russell allen (one of the best non-growlers live!) never goes "Waaaaaaaaah!!" or "Yeow!" their guitar playing is much more complex, and in this respect they're more like hard-edged progressive rock.

Raziel, I bought V a year ago, and it rocked, so I paid $125 to import their other four. I especially like Divine Wings...

i looooove how Michael Romeo's guitar has such a "chunky" sound to it, even when he's playing arpeggios or ostenatos.

saturnix, you see clerly what i mean, and thanks for realizing they are more than power metal ALSO Kansas kicks ass

Some excellent musicianship. Absolutely aweful vocals. Comparisons with Dream Theater are unavoidable because they were there first (i.e. the great music/aweful vocals combo). If I ever audition for a progressive band, I'll make sure I sing my very worst... that should get me the job.

just have the drummer use your nuts as a drum, and that will get you there! Actually, I think he has a good voice, but one that is going to make you hate him or love him.

I don't see how people can say Russel Allen lacks talent, sure you can dislike his talent, but you can't deny that it is there, I always come across people comparing Russel Allen to metal singers such as Dio, and let me say once again Romeo is basically a guitar God.

I just saw Symphony X in concert last night, and they were fucking incredible...they are just as tight on stage as on record, and they perform the songs perfectly (including their supremely talented ex-bassist's Tom Miller's parts) and with tons of energy. One of the best progressive metal acts out there, their last three albums are brilliant and I eagerly anticipate the next one. And Russell Allen does not suck!

I agree about Labrie being pretty bad, but I really enjoy Allen and The Divine Wings of Tragedy is one of my favorite discs. I thought they were great live also!

Enjoy the moment....

Symphony X rules. Definitely not plain power metal, although, I must confess, I do listen to power and I don't really see where everyone comes off speaking ill of it. Power goes closely hand in hand with classic heavy metal...
...or are everyone around here death/doom mongers who can only listen to growling?

Are Symphony X really that good live? A friend of mine went to see them at Sweden Rock and said they had no stage prescence at all. Doesn't matter, though. I'm going to get to see them in October anyway (they're supporting Savatage... muhahahaha. eherm.) :)
