Take a minute to help out America by blocking censorship!!

hey i have a better idea... don't use someone else's intellectual property to "express yourself!"

make your own music, pay for your music, go out... see/hear a live show... buy a t-shirt.

don't fight something like an anti-piracy law because consequently ...the music belongs to that corporation and they have the right to protect if from some douchebag that can't afford a $12 cd. :erk:

It's not about downloading. It's about free speech to post what you want whether it be a cover song, or a video with a song you like in it anywhere in a video on the internet. You wouldn't be able to do that. Read up on it dude. It's not just about music.

it's the PROTECT IP act. i know what it is. it's my job to know what it is... it protects the theft of intellectual property and it has everything to do with music (among other multimedia platforms) and how it is unrightfully (and unlawfully) distributed around the world.

i think you need to do some reading... i've known about the bill since may and have read all the contents more than once. it effectively gives the united states jurisdiction over registered internet sites that may reside outside the US that potentially infringe on anti-piracy laws currently enforced by the US judicial system.

it's not only about music... it's about all intellectual property in the digital medium.

wouldn't you want all your work protected?

***also, just because you think you have the "freedom" to say whatever is on your mind (in this country) does not mean you are in void of any consequences. sure, say whatever you want... but stealing is stealing and that is a crime worthy of punishment. i have my opinions on this bill and the fact it's going to cost taxpayers about $50 million to maintain it is most definitely a concern of mine.

Im on your side Tim, on the facebook group i was linked to a copy of the bill. Im going to read the whole thing and see if i find anything threatening. Upon reading the outline of the bill i agreed with it but i will look over the real thing.
I agree with protecting intellectual property 100%.

1) I'm on Tim's side. Stuff like Spotify, iTunes, Voddler, Netflix etc have made it pretty easy to hear a song or see a movie of your choice legally.

2) Protesting against this only a day before the bill is being passed or not is just stupid, you should've started protesting against it months ago, constantly.

3) I don't live in the US anymore, so I really couldn't give a fuck if your internetz gets censored because of stupid people doing illegal stuff. All the internet censorship in China aka "The Great Firewall of China" hasn't affected me in ANY way since 1998 that it started. And if you didn't know; Internet censorship is NOT a new thing. This is the current situation:

Dark Pink: Pervasive censorship (A large portion of content in several categories is blocked.)
Light Pink: Substantial censorship (A number of categories are subject to a medium level of filtering or many categories are subject to a low level of filtering.)
Light Yellow: Selective censorship (A small number of specific sites are blocked or filtering targets a small number of categories or issues.)
Dark Yellow: Under surveillance (It is suspected, but not confirmed, that Web sites are being blocked.)
Green: No evidence of censorship
Gray: Not classified / No data

Also if you have ever attended a college or similar institution in the States, internet censorship is happening there too, at least in forms of pornography, piracy and similar websites. Took me a good month to find a website where streaming worked like it was supposed to.

From what I heard, people who oppose this think that this bill is very likely to be abused. But ah what the hell. There's always Tor. And bitcoins. Hurr derp.

I'm more worried about FEMA camps and the globalist machine depopulating the world :(

really? ...you are gonna use this thread to parrot some nonsense you heard on the interwebz (or the likes)... like death camps (or whatever)?

piracy is a real thing... don't derail this conversation about something real (piracy) with some outrageous assertion.

FEMA death camps are not real... they will never be real. piracy is real and should be controlled. if you are afraid of a "globalist machine" infiltrating your home and placing your life in danger... buy a gun and protect yourself. you have the right to do that and so does every other law abiding, tax paying american citizen. you really have nothing to be afraid of.

now... back to piracy!

anyone actually read the bill yet?

I was being sarcastic.

Edit: also in my neighborhood there are about 200 guns, so I'm good. Proud to be a Texan

If it passes, could you not just use a proxy? It's how i got around it at school :p

But piracy is most definetly something that needs to be stopped.
