Harri Hakanen, a music journalist at Yle (Finnish Broadcasting Company) has announced the release of a podcast series on Tarja Turunen, the solo artist and former Nightwish singer. In this ten-part series Tarja speaks openly about her career, life in Spain and her stroke in 2018. among other things.

Says Harri Hakanen: “In addition to Tarja herself we interviewed her family, band members (for example Doug Wimbish, also Living Colour), vocal coaches and colleagues, such as Floor Jansen (Nightwish), Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation) and Timo Kotipelto (Stratovarius).

“Quite a few of her fans (and Nightwish-fans naturally) outside of Finland requested an English version when the news about this podcast broke out and we have now released a subtitled version (as we did last year with our podcast on Alexi Laiho/Children Of Bodom).

“All the episodes are embedded within a short article on Yle’s website (also in English).”

Introduction: It’s been two decades since Tarja Turunen launched her solo career (after having been a singer for nine years in one of the most revered Finnish metal bands of all time, Nightwish) and she’s still pulling in massive crowds, especially across South America and mainland Europe. Yet, back home in Finland, most people have little clue what this genre-bending soprano is up to these days, even though she changed the face of symphonic metal forever.

This summer, Turunen is finally set to hit the stage at Tuska, Finland’s iconic metal festival—a milestone she describes as ”about time.”

On the ten-part podcast series ”The World’s Best Tarja Turunen”, journalists Pauliina Grym and Harri Hakanen are diving headfirst into Tarja’s world. In the series they trace Tarja from the Yle’s studios in Helsinki to her origins in North Karelia, to her sun-soaked home in Spain and to the kickoff of her 2025 world tour in Tallinn, Estonia.

Besides Tarja herself the series includes interviews with her husband-manager Marcelo Cabuli, colleagues Floor Jansen (Nightwish), Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation) and Timo Kotipelto (Stratovarius), just to mention a few.

You can listen to the podcast with English subtitles here.
