Back in the Eighties, there was a Big Four of metal...

Metallica
Megadeth
Slayer
Anthrax

Many look back at this era with love. Indeed, these bands have made some of the best music...of any genre. They are legends.

And looking at the scene right now, it seems that Sweden has produced some of this generations greatest metal bands. And I cannot contain it to four, so I shall stretch it out to six. These are bands that have lead the way in death metal, melodic, progressive...the Gothenburg Sound and new metal in general (not Nu Metal...yuck!)

These are the Big Six of The New Wave Of Swedish Heavy Metal...

Opeth
In Flames
Dark Tranquillity
Arch Enemy
Katatonia
Amon Amarth

Does anyone else have a Big Six...or Four...or whatever?

As far as a Big Four of Metal (not just in Sweden) I would say it goes like this...

Opeth
In Flames
Iced Earth
Blind Guardian

It's just so hard...metal music (underground metal to be more specific) has so many great bands to choose from. Many here could easily pick four or six completely different bands! That's the great thing about it!

Yeah, what's the deal with metal made in Sweden? With a few exceptions, all my favourite bands are Swedish. Sweden rules, I always knew it

LOL! Swedish heavy or melo-death metal epitomizes what most of the UG death metallers hate. You call it "undergorund metal"? You must be kidding.
