Which is the biggest band of the genre (death) all around the world? I have no clue...

In Flames ?
Children of Bodom ?
Dark Tranquillity ?

Not that it matters... but it's pretty fun to know anyway

I'd say Sepultura.

Death is a legendary band, but for some reason it seems to be quite 'underground' still.

I know Death and I have a CD of them, but I don't think their so special... maybe i should get some older work of them.

I think In flames is the biggest band of those three.

The death that play "Death" (and bands like them, like Morbid Angel, Obituary, Entombed...) is not the same than the death that play "In Flames" (and bands like CoB, Dark Tranquility.....).

And I think that the death that CoB play is not only that. It´s something more that just a death metal band.....

The absolute definition of Death Metal is DEATH for sure. They may not be so popular (even tho i think that they are more popular than all three of the above mentioned), but death metal nowadays owns a very big part of its existence to Death...

Do you notice some similarity between
DEATH and
DEATH metal.

Do you think this is accidental??? :err:

Well, I see your point.
I guess i could mention that Black Metal by Venom, gave its name to the genre.
Heavy Metal by itself as a term came from a reporter that had listened to "Paranoid" and wrote that their music were like "Havy Metals"...
Anyway even if you view it on the historical point of view, you will see that Death were really the pioneers of Death Metal.
As for Power there is a band named POWER, and there is "Power Metal" by Pantera in mid 80s.:D

I think the biggest Death Metal band in the world would probably slayer(or is it thrash metal)hmmm...oh well that is what I would pick that Death or In Flames

Im gonna look at it as most popular gothenburg band (melodic death style), and no question asked In Flames ( my favorite band hehe), regardless I think they are the most popular. As for overall death, its probably Slayer......I dont listen to too much straight death metal so I couldnt tell you accurately..

I thought the term heavy metal came from the Steppenwolf song Born To Be Wild.

Anyway. Why am I the only one who's mentioned Sepultura?

And technically, Slayer isn't a death band. It is considered to be one of the big four of trash, so that should give you a little hint.

Unfortunately, many people seem to think so.

But they still are one of the most known, if not the most known band in their genre.

And that's what the original question was about.
