Valfar
3rd of September 1978 -January 14, 2004

Band-Windir

Cause of Death-Valfar went out on a walk towards his family's cabin at Fagereggi, but he never arrived. Three days later, authorities found his body at Reppastølen in the Sogndal valley. He had gotten stuck in a snow storm, and had died of hypothermia.

Chuck Schuldiner
May 13, 1967- December 13, 2001

Band-Death/Control Denied

Cause of death

In May 1999, Schuldiner started experiencing some pain in his upper neck, which he initially thought was a pinched nerve. He consulted with a chiropractor followed by a massage therapist/acupuncturist who recommended an MRI Exam. He was correct about the pinched nerve, but unfortunately it was being caused by a tumor. On his birthday, May 13, 1999, Schuldiner was diagnosed with pontine glioma, a type of brain cancer that invades the brain stem. Although Schuldiner never married or had children, he dated a woman named Kim for many years

Denis Piggy D'Amour

(September 24, 1959 - August 26, 2005

Band-Voivod -Influenced equally by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and the Reagan-era Cold War, their early, post-apocalyptic music would later evolve into outright science fiction.

Cause of Death-Piggy D'amour died of Colon cancer at the age of 45

Randy Rhoades
(December 6, 1956 – March 19, 1982

Band-Ozzy, Quiet Riot

Cause of Death-On March 19, 1982, the band was headed to a festival in Orlando, Florida, when they stopped at the bus driver's house in Leesburg, Florida after driving much of the night. The driver, Andrew Aycock, was also a licensed pilot and he, Randy Rhoads and hairdresser Rachel Youngblood climbed into a plane and took off early that morning. Apparently, during the flight, an attempt was made to "buzz" the tour bus where the other band members were sleeping - in doing this, the plane clipped the bus by accident and crashed into the garage of the nearby house. Rhoads, age 25, was killed instantly, as were Aycock, 36, and Youngblood, 58. It was found later that Aycock had an expired flying license and had some amount of cocaine in his system. Randy's toxicology test for illicit substances was found to be negative, he had not been using drugs at the time.

Dimebag Darrell (born Darrell Lance Abbott also known as Diamond Darrell
August 20, 1966 – December 8, 2004)

Band-Pantera/DamagePlan/Rebel Meets Rebel

Cause of Death- On December 8th, 2004, while performing with Damageplan at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, Dimebag Darrell was shot and killed onstage by a crazed fan named Nathan Gale. Abbott received a total of five gunshot wounds at point blank range. He was 38 years old.
Three others were killed in the shooting: concert attendee Nathan Bray, 23, of Columbus; club employee Erin Halk, 29, of northwest Columbus; and Damageplan security guard Jeff "Mayhem" Thompson, 40, of Texas. The band's drum technician, John Brooks, and tour manager, Chris Paluska, were injured.
According to police, Gale fired a total of fifteen shots, taking the time to reload once, remaining silent throughout the shooting (although early reports falsely indicated that he made disparaging remarks about the breakup of Pantera. The band was playing when this happened; nobody would have heard him even if he had yelled anything). When security staff and audience members climbed the stage to try to stop him, Gale fired at them, killing Halk (who went after the gunman with a wooden table) and Thompson and wounding Paluska. Gale then took Brooks hostage, holding him in a headlock position after the technician attempted to wrestle him to the ground. When the hostage moved slightly, Columbus police officer James D. Niggemeyer, who was the first officer on scene, shot Gale in the back of the head with a 12 gauge police issue shotgun, killing him.
During the rampage, nurse and audience member Mindy Reece, 28, went to the aid of Abbott. She and another fan administered CPR until paramedics arrived. According to some reports, victim Nathan Bray was also attempting to render assistance when he was killed.
The shootings occurred on the 24th anniversary of the murder of John Lennon, but there is no indication that this was a factor in Gale's actions.
Originally, it was thought that Gale acted on rumors of a Pantera breakup, but later investigators have also ruled out the theory that the killing was over a public dispute between Dimebag and Pantera singer Phil Anselmo. [3]
Abbott's family has now decided to sue the night club where he was murdered. They claim that if the club had employed competent security guards, this needless death would have never occurred. The club owner states that his security guards are not trained nor were ever intended to thwart gun wielding guests. The news of this lawsuit comes within days of the anniversary of Abbott's murder.

Clifford Lee Burton
(February 10, 1962 – September 27, 1986

Band- Metallica

Cause of Death- While on their European tour, Burton and Kirk Hammett randomly picked from a deck of cards to see who would get the top bunk on the bus. Burton pulled the Ace of Spades sealing his "victory," and so he chose to sleep on Kirk Hammett's bed, as Hammett recalls on the VH1 show "Behind the Music". Burton died when the band's tour bus hit black ice (though it is still disputed that they may have crashed because the driver may have been drinking) and flipped over in rural Sweden. As the bus was skidding out of control and eventually rolled over on the grass, Burton fell out of a window, and was crushed by the bus. It is unknown whether Burton was still alive at this point. He was crushed again when the winch cable lifting the bus off him snapped, dropping the bus on him a second time. The other people on the bus recount seeing Burton's feet sticking out from under the bus. That image has haunted them ever since.
The night after the accident, James Hetfield got drunk and wrecked his hotel room. He then allegedly ran through the streets yelling "Cliff, where are ya?"
Burton's body was cremated. At the ceremony, the instrumental "Orion" from the album Master of Puppets was played. Metallica recently played Orion for the First time since then, with new bassist Rob Trujillo.

Øystein Aarseth
euronymous.jpg

Euronymous.
(March 22, 1968–August 10, 1993

Band-Mayhem (and supposed founding father of Black metal)

Cause of Death-In 1993, Øystein Aarseth was stabbed to death by Varg Vikernes (who at the time went by the name "Count Grishnackh"). According to the official report, he was stabbed a total of twenty-three times: two to the head, five to the neck, and sixteen to the back. However, Vikernes disputes this, saying instead that Aarseth fell on some broken glass as he was fleeing, which would explain high number of back punctures. There is much speculation with regards to the motive for the murder, but Vikernes has stated that the stabbing was motivated mostly by self-defence. Varg also claimes Euronymous' didn't pay up the money he owed him for Burzum album sales on Deathlike Silence records, Euronymous very own record label. also (see: A Burzum Story).
After Aarseth's death, Mayhem continued recording their upcoming album, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. However, Euronymous's mother told Hellhammer, Mayhem's drummer, to remove basslines that had been recorded by Varg. He said to her that he would personally re-record the bass himself, but the truth is that he had no idea how to, so the album remained the same, featuring Varg on it. Other rumours about Occultus, Mayhem's former vocalist, playing the new bass lines are thought to be false as well. By the time Century Black started distributing Mayhem this has become a bit of an open secret so the basslines were removed completely on most of the recent prints of the album.

Dead (aka) Per Yngve Ohlin)[/B]

January 16, 1969 – April 8, 1991

Band-Mayhem

Cause of death- On April 8, 1991, a fellow Mayhem band member, Øystein 'Euronymous' Aarseth, found him deceased from slit wrists, and a shotgun wound to the head. The suicide note that was found with his corpse simply read "Excuse all the blood." (Hellhammer later elaborated that the note was a bit more detailed, including apologies for having to use the shotgun inside the house but the knife was just too dull to finish the job). Euronymous then took pictures of the grisly scene, which were later used for a bootleg album entitled Dawn of the Black Hearts, containing the previously mentioned Sarpsborg, Norway gig from 1990 as well as four live songs Mayhem performed with their old vocalist in 1986. Aarseth was also said to have eaten parts of Dead's brain, and to have made necklaces out of fragments of his skull. The necklace was later stolen while on tour. It is also rumoured that pieces of his skull were mailed out to bands that Aarseth saw as "worthy", such as the Swiss band Samael. According to Mayhem drummer Hellhammer, Morgan S. Hakansson of Marduk still has some pieces of Dead's skull. It from Abruptum also claims to have small pieces.

Teemu 'Somnium' Raimoranta

Band-Finntroll

Cause of Death- Died 2003 in a supposed alcohol-related falling accident, though Mika Luttinen, vocalist from Impaled Nazarene, has gone on the record saying that his death was a suicide, and that he only had the equivalent of three beers in his system at the time of death.)

RIP to all of those guys. Metal wouldn't have been the same without them.

Very Nice thread. Valfar certainly died a very metal death. That reminds me reminds me, I have to buy some Windir cds!

If my child ever did that I'd fucking exorcise the little bastard.

And he didn't eat them, Hellhammers said that on record. Plus it should be mentioned that Mayhem are utterly terrible, scene over substance in my opinion.

Still the tragedies that befell Mayhem were tragic wastes of two young lives of those who just got far to deep in to a self perpetuating cycle of shit, in a scene which far too many took far too seriosuly.

maybe. but in a world where people have badgers with swinging penises for signatures...id say just about anything goes.

not to say id go near em, but most of those black metal guys are skinny white guys, not horribly scary, cept for that fucking goliath from Gorgoroth, and Valfars brother i think it is from Windir, those guys would crush some people, then again "deceiver" might be a force to reckon with
