Great, great album. I still think the first album is a better, albeit less shiny album, but don't miss out on this. The first album was a bit doomier and much more melancholic, whereas this new one is more modern-sounding, a bit less doomy, and almost has a melodic death metal sound to it, a la Opeth's "When". In fact, it's like the album Opeth fans have always wanted Opeth to make but never did. With its slow, lumbering, melancholic, and clean passages, it's immediately clear that it's a FOES album, along with the growls and heavy riffs.

It's nothing new, but it's probably better than anything the bands who influenced this album did before it.

Sounds pretty good, but what the fuck is up with the death vocals in the mix? They sound like they have too much reverb and are shoved too deep into the mix. It almost sounds like someone in a bathroom.

Pretty decent shit. It reminds me almost too much of mid-era Opeth, but it's good enough to continue to enjoy, which usually leads to discovering traits that make the band unique.

I have this habit with a lot of music. At first it reminds me of other bands, but the more I listen, the more I find what sets them apart. Eventually I fall in love with the band and they turn into a favorite. I could easily see that happening here, so I shall check out this album in its' entirety.

It's very good, no doubt about it. I'm still partial to his first album (TFOES is a one-man band)...From Below is one of the greatest, most beautiful doom albums I've ever heard. The new one is still great, however.

I think the vocals remind people of Opeth, namely "My Arms, Your Hearse". It's like I'm traveling back to 1999 all over again, before Opeth became stale and blown out of proportion. I'm going to say that's where it ends, though. There are acoustic parts and clean parts as with Opeth, but I think if you listen to it more, you'll discover it's much less progressive and quite straightforward, melodic doom.

Talkingbackwards, I actually like the vocals like that. I like that reverb-y, delay-in-the-bathroom sound. It gives growling more depth and more dimensions. I'm just about 100% past anything with death vocals these days. There is nothing in death metal that is remotely interesting to me anymore, yet I enjoy these vocals immensely.

While the production isn't as polished, I still prefer the first one...and although I really like the new album, it hasn't grabbed me like his first one did. I'm still listening to the first one on a weekly basis.

I've been mostly past death vocals in general since the 90s. :)
Although there are some very select exceptions of course. Anyway, I like most of what I've heard from this band. I'll just try to not focus on the vocals, and they probably won't annoy me. Much.
