I listened to this album for the first time a few days ago and I must say its a BRUTAL piece of work. The riffs are bludgeoning and some of the lyrics scared me. Great work, guys! (Even though my praise is almost 7 years late)
'The Gathering' is definitely their most brutal album to date!! I have to admit though, that they even made the old shit sound pretty intense these days!
Better late than never
As for the brutality- yeah, it's there but there' so much more to this record than just it, that I seem to have stopped to notice it. It' a great combination of brutality, melody, chaos and control. About the lyrics- some of them are really great- personal and general, all very heavy. My favs are "Sewn Shut Eyes" and "D.N.R."
Yeah, I prefer The Gathering over Demonic. Demonic is my least favorite Testament album. The only one I don't own. Hey Spreading the Living, I didn't know you posted this much on the Testament forum.
I'm not really sure what you're saying. Seven Days of May? That's on Souls of Black. There is a song called 3 Days in Darkness which is on The Gathering.
And yeah, The Gathering is heavy. I wonder if the new album will be as heavy, I'm almost guessing that it won't be with Alex and Louie back. I hope I'm wrong.
I wish they'd have busted this one out on the London DVD. What an unbelievable song on a great album. Skolnick just friggin' owns on that solo (like he does on almost every solo).
