i got into a conversation with the guy at indian dhaba yesterday about the best kinds of basmati rice, and he was firmly behind Lal Qilla brand. so i checked out the Lal Qilla website (http://www.lalqilla-rice.com/profile.htm), which is a typical corporate site, except that instead of "biography" they stodgily refer to their company's history as "HEART-RENDING JOURNEY".

The seeds of excellence were sown in the early 1900s when the idea of starting a rice business germinated inside the late S. Amar Singh, with the accent on quality of the highest order and the undying faith and unshakeable confidence of S.Amar Singh it was not long before Lal Quilla stormed to now heights and emerged as the undisputed market leader. Today under the spirited guidance of Mr. S.K. kartar Singh assisted by his brother. Mr. Pritam Singh and son. Mr. Arvinder Pal Singh along own of the best brands in the word Lal 'Quilla' which is synonymous with eh best quality Basmati rice.

not at all. i would challenge you to name a gaudier culture, and if you can't, does that mean everyone in the world except indians are boring? no.

also, BOLLYWOOD movies are both gaudy and BORING AS FUCK.

my grandmother always said russians in america were way gaudier.
either way, i just know way too many non-gaudy indians to agree with you at all.

i disagree with the russian statement tremendously, unless the russians in my neighbourhood are just especially drab.

and the existence of non-gaudy indians does not affect the accuracy of a generalization in the slightest. i know a couple of polacks who don't like pierogis, but i feel comfortable generalizing polacks as pierogi-eating roundfaces.

onion domes and poofy sleeves have nothing on pink-and-gold-lame outfits, hennaed hands, and CHRISTMAS LIGHTS ALL YEAR ROUND!

i dont know any gaudy indians either, which bothers me. :(

it's funny because i am the opposite. i know tons of people with guns but i assume on the large, most americans dont have them and it's really just an overstatement.
