So we all know cob are calling themselves just extreme-metal and COB had been called everything between nu-metal and black metal...!

So I made this thread just for fun to hear the public opinion of the fans.
In which genre/s you think COB belongs to?

You do know it's a joke people keep asking what genre Bodom belong in, and nobody takes it seriously anymore?

There's so much diversity in the music they can't be labeled anything else than 1) metal, 2) melodic (death) metal, or 3) extreme metal.

If you call them heavy metal, black metal, speed metal, you're not only stupid, but suppressing them down onto a narrow subgenre

And all you wise-asses who go "They're just metal, end of fucking story!" are just equally insulting them, as if they're wannabes and never experimented with their music. What I label simply metal is a band that sounds the same every song & album and comes up with generic metal riffs with no purpose. It's not wrong to say COB is metal, but it's not very wise either.

I can't possibly believe that someone bumped this duplicate thread because the other one had actually some discussion in it. Thus there would be no point in resuscitating this thread but congratulations CoB On-Topic, you amaze me again.

BY THE WAY IT'S STILL DUBSTEP

Actually I think the last 4 albums can be labeled. One has to remember the biggest creativity was in the past.

Joonas

Im not, nor trying to, insult anybody or the band by saying they are Heavy Metal. I dont agree on your "definition" of the genre either. Sure the style have changed over the albums, but its still heavy metal.
Joonas your the fcking one who is "suppressing them down to a narrow subgenre" ffs.
Heavy metal is heavy metal. Imo they are none of the other anyway.

And dont call people with another opinion stupid

:kickass:

Lol. And soon you're gonna tell me my pals are humans?

I'd feel more natural calling especially Hatebreeder & Follow the Reaper albums metal instead of heavy metal. They don't triumph with heavy riffs, but with creativity. They're still heavy yes, but it tastes misleading.

Agree, I think I know what you mean ..
But i still would call them heavy metal through all albums.

ffs they are not even close to anyothermetalsubgenre at all !

- and please dont ever even go there guys !1

Alexi always shout from the beginning of COB during a lot of their live gigs between two songs "Do you wanna hear some more fucking heavy metal?" or something similar. But always heavy metal. But do you really care what genre it is? For me there's only a difference between black, death and heavy metal but all in all it's all metal. As long as noones calling COB "nu" or "speed" (like eveningninja..lol) metal, everything's fine.

10 years ago I always said Bodom is melodic metal but since HCDR it's just metal or heavy metal.

Edit: Just ask yourself if there's any similar band where you can tell the exact kind of metal? No. Cannibal Corpse or Death are pure Death metal bands, Cradle Of Filth and Dimmu are black, Hammerfall is speed, Metallica is trash, Iron Maidon heavy. Everyone would say the same. But saying COB are a mix of this, this and this is senseless. Even the band members can't define their exact genre. Conclusion: Bodom is a metal band.

Alexi always shout from the beginning of COB during a lot of their live gigs between two songs "Do you wanna hear some more fucking heavy metal?"

He also says Do you want us to play some more punk? He also once said they're 'gupsy metal.' That means nothing.

COB just tries to sound as good as possible. At least tried, I don't know what they're trying now. Every melody has a purpose. It's insulting to say for example "Bed of Razors is speed metal, it's full of these pointless melodies going here and there." Because they're not pointless.

It's insulting to say for example "Bed of Razors is speed meta

This is why there's no exact genre. A lot of their songs have some bits of speed or whatever metal. But most of all other metal bands have the same bits here and there where you could say it's "..." metal. A lot of those metal magazines call Bodom death but that's bullshit because it has nothing to do with death. They just call it death because they can't understand what Alexis sings and you also can't understand what death metal singer sing. Why must there be an exact genre? Isn't it enough to say it's just metal?

Since a lot of people still seem to be confused with this subject and actually care about it, let me englighten you with my wisdom once more:

Genres are not set in stone, but by most people's standards (which obviously is the relevant thing in genre discussions) COB (post-HCDR) is melodic death/thrash or melodic death metal with thrash elements. Though some people still refer to all metal music by the term "heavy metal", it's largely misleading with all the subgenres these days. "Metal" refers to all metal music there is and "heavy metal" refers to bands like Judas Priest and Manowar. Also, calling COB "bodom metal" would imply the band is extremely original, which it hasn't been in a long time.

Yeah, Bodom-metal was the first three albums. No chance in hell do the new style albums deserve to be labeled that, because they're not original enough.
