The Haunted studio report

"weird fuzzy tones" = Engl PowerBall, pretty sure they are using it again this time around.

You can hear the drumsound of the "pool" in the new Cataract album. Pretty similar to the other drum sound done by Tue... the wall of the pool are really close to the drums like a very little untreated room...but probably the high ceiling help the sound a lot.

To be honest, that setup, both the pool and the control room is a nightmare for the acoustic purists in the world. :) Those hard walls clos to the drums = loads of phase issues and the window to the left in the mixing room... same there, not to mention the Behringer monitors. It does tell you that with a good set of ears, skill and knowledge of the flaws, you can still get an awesome result with "unprofessional" gear.

In other words: Tue Madsen's got mad skills. ;)

Can't wait to heat how the pool sounds like!
The reflection of sound is probably hell, but then again I'm reminded of [Insert the name I forgot here] that used to record his drums in his bathroom.

I think I also spy a Behringer compressor unit in his rack on the right side. I dunno how he does it, I just love that he can.

You can also notice that the OH's mics are not spaced from the snare with the 3:1 tecnique but they are simply in the best position for the cymbals and only for them

TBH I have never used any 3:1, or similar, rule when placing the OH mics and I have yet to have a single issue with phase. The only phase issue I ever have is snare top and bottom mic, and that is always as simple as flipping the phase afterwards in the DAW. Just my experience so far though.

He already recorded there the last Heaven Shall Burn, Cataract, Davidian and also the new Ektomorf...and the drums sound is his usual sound.
Here you can hear some drum parts
