Guitarist Daniel Cavanagh has left ANATHEMA. He is now playing in ANTIMATTER with Duncan Patterson and Michael Moss. According to Cavanagh: "Our songs are going to be very good, and a lot closer to the true Anathema of 'Alternative 4'"

ANDROMEDA
From CENTURY MEDIA: Andromeda, with new vocalist David Fremberg, have begun working on their second album. After checking out the drum sound, the band decided to stay at home, so to speak. "Yes, our own studio proved to be good enough. Now we can work on our song material without stress. Eight songs are already written, but of course the time spent in our studio will allow us to improvise and hone the songs as we go along to record them," concludes guitarist Johan Reinholdz. The album is set to be finished in March 2002. Johan Reinholdz is also very happy that Extension Of The Wish sold so well in the USA, "Yes, I never thought a progressive album could stand a chance!" From CENTURY MEDIA: A Night At The Opera is finally out! Early indications are that sales are off to a furious start in North America, and many retailers sold out the first day as rabid fans swamped the stores in hopes of nabbing a copy. Already out now for two weeks in Europe, A Night At The Opera has managed an impressive collection of chart numbers in its debut week: #5 Germany , #34 Switzerland (German part), #44 (French part) , #17 Austria , #1 Greece , #8 Spain , #11 Italy , #10 Sweden , #97 Norway. Aside from a jam packed festival schedule this summer, Blind Guardian have now announced three dates in Brazil this August. The big news concerning North American fans is the band's headline performance at this year's ProgPower Festival held on November 15 and 16 in Atlanta, GA. Also appearing on the bill are Gamma Ray, Devin Townsend, Angra and many others. Rumors continue to swirl about possibilities of a full North American tour, but nothing can be confirmed as of press time.

San Diego's goreifying quintet CATTLE DECAPITATION, have signed to METAL BLADE. Cattle Decapitation's sound will bring elements of older death/grind, inbred with utterly impossible low vocals, while being stabbed by immense drumming. Cattle Decapitation brings forth the ideas of vegetarianism with the utmost brutal approach in expression, both musically and imagery. When the names Carcass, Napalm Death, Repulsion, Cannibal Corpse are said as the defining bands, Cattle Decapitation will be the next name on the list. Fans may recognize drummer Dave Astor who formed The Locust, and former Cattle Decapitation guitarist Gabe Serbian who now plays drums in The Locust. Showing their deep roots in the underground extreme music scene, playing shows up and down the West Coast, as well as releasing 2 full length albums on an indy label from San Diego. Singer Travis Ryan had this to say about their addition to the Metal Blade roster: "We're all very pleased about being on Metal Blade. We have been fans of bands of Metal Blade for years now, so to finally to be on a roster that has hosted Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Rigor Mortis and Cryptic Slaughter is just fine with us! Being on Metal Blade is going to allow us to reach a higher level of exposure and ability to play in places and in front of crowds that we wouldn't normally be able to, and that is something we need right now." CATTLE DECAPITATION will head into Trident Studios with Juan Urteaga and start to record their Metal Blade debut in early April. Expect their release, "To Serve Man" in July 2002.

Swiss hard rock commandos, Crystal Ball, return for the third time! Frontman Mark Sweeney and his guys have entered Studio 51 with Tommy Newton (Helloween, Victory etc.) to produce twelve brand new songs. The CD’s title is Virtual Empire, and it will be their first release for Nuclear Blast. The guys combine plausible refrains with powerful riffs and discreet but impressive keyboards. You can experience it yourself at one of their gigs in the summer (Summer Breeze Festival for example) and on their upcoming European tour. There'll also be a single and a video clip soon.

It's almost overdue to spread some news about DEW-SCENTED after so much has been happening around here lately! First of all, we are extremely psyched about your overwhelmingly positive feedback for our new album "Inwards" and seriously look forward to meet you sooner or later this year on tour! We have made sure to add a section with press response for "Inwards" on our website, so feel free to check out that nice collection of reviews in different languages... We would actually like to greet everybody who came up to the awesome CD presentation gig in Salzgitter in late February! That was a killer night, so cheers to Crack Up and Night In Gales as well! DEW-SCENTED just returned from 8 very succesful dates in England, Scotland and Ireland together with Vader and Centurian! That tour was a blast and we made a lot of new friends over there! Thanks to everybody involved on those shows and especially to Chris from Night In Gales / Bloodred Bacteria for his great job as stand-in drummer for D-S! Also, some additional upgrade happened to the DEW-SCENTED stage line-up, so just in case you have been wondering: Our second guitarplayer for shows is called Hendrik Bache and you will be seeing him provide extra axe-power to the new song material on the upcoming live dates as well.... Next up is a tour of 6 dates in France with No Return, Scarve and Rain! That's a killer package so it will be hopefully be a great run of shows!!? Please take notice: The DEW-SCENTED shows at Fuck The Commerce festival and the gig in Flensburg have been canceled by the local promoters, so please update your files! But we have some great confirmed new gigs for you: We will play in Hannover on May 3rd (instead of Flensburg), do the Summer Rocks festival in Budapest / Hungary together with Manowar (!) on June 7th and last but certainly not least: DEW-SCENTED have been confirmed as support to Cannibal Corpse for a full European tour in September / October of this year with Severe Torture on the opening slot! That is going to be an awesome tour that is gonna take us all around Europe to present our new album "Inwards"!!! Look out for those dates!!! Please expect some more single shows and Summer festival slots to be announced soon as well... From CENTURY MEDIA: Mark your calendars as the blistering assault found on Silent Night Fever will be unleashed upon North America May 14. Until that time, guitarist Jesper Strömblad will be busy with his other band, In Flames, touring the US with Iced Earth and Jag Panzer. Fans eager to hear this release have been flocking to the band's website to hear the MP3 for "Your Darkest Hour". Eager to expose even more people to this band's overwhelming sound, Century Media has added the track "The Murder Inn" to its MP3 section. Already confirmed are three live dates in Japan this May, and perhaps the band will be adding some festival dates to their live itinerary as well, stay tuned for more details as they develop.

DREAM EVIL
Fredrik Nordström and company have set a release party for Dragonslayer on April 27 at "Metal Terassen" in Gothenburg, giving fans and journalists and early chance to hear this group's powerful debut. The press reaction from Europe has been nothing short of stellar so far with Andreas SchÃwe of Hammer and Rock Hard's GÃtz Kühnemund both writing rave reviews. The band's first official show will be at the 2000 Decibel Festival on May 18th 2002 in Bengtsfors - Valhall, Sweden, and then they hope to bring their brand of melodic metal to the rest of Europe and beyond shortly thereafter. The band hopes to launch their website very soon.

From ELITIST RECORDS: The Ephel Duath CD "Rephormula" has now been out for a couple of months and the response has been great on the whole. Davide from the band came to the UK for interviews and photo shoots with Kerrang, Terrorizer and TotalRock, the album got 8/10 in UK's Metal Hammer, KKKK in Kerrang, 8/10 in BW&BK plus many more great reviews and interviews around the world. If you've still not heard this fantastic album, then you're missing out. There's an MP3 to download on the new website. Check it out. Ephel Duath has put a full band together and a presently rehearsing the new material. The sound is said to be more "organic" than the Rephormula debut, and the early indications of the material show a far more progressive, almost jazzy nature. Davide Tiso is going to prove that the stylistic, futuristic creativity of Ephel Duath's debut album was in no way a fluke. Be prepared for black metal to be taken to an entirely new level.

From CENTURY MEDIA: The Trolls are currently on their way to Moscow for a gig with Impaled Nazarene. nfortunately vocalist Katla wasn't able to make the trip due to complications involving a tumor on his vocal chords, going in his stead is Tapio Vilska (Sethian, ex-Darkwood, My Betrothed, ex-Nattvindens Grat, ex-Wizzard), a full recovery is soon expected for Katla, and he hopes to be back trolllin' in time for the bands performance this July at Germany's With Full Force Festival. There is still no word yet on plans for recording a new CD, but in the meantime go back and pick up their latest, Jaktens Tid-a unique release combining the sounds of black metal with the polka-like sounds of Finnish humppa music. Although sounding odd on paper, the two combined form a brutal sound all its own, and perfect for those looking for something new and daring.

Although vocalist Stephanie has been sick with the flu, the band has still managed to put on great performances night after night, and is winning over many new fans. FOREST STREAM
From ELITIST RECORDS: Forest Stream are presently recording their debut album "Tears Of
Mortal Solitude" in their own studio based near Moscow, Russia. "Tears..." will be the first in a trilogy, with the albums following a "All The Sorrow", "All The Majesty" and "All The Hate" sequence. "Tears..." will showcase the "All The Sorrow" aspect, with the music and lyrics predominately of a black / doom nature. Bleak and unforgiving, this album promises to be a suicidal, crestfallen classic. The band is also working on the artwork for the
trilogy of albums, where the secrets to the concept will be revealed and pieced together like a jigsaw, only to make complete sense once the final fragments are in place. Unique plans are afoot to make it wholly interactive by adding clues and riddles that will eventually lead to someone winning a very special prize. Again, more when we have it.

From CENTURY MEDIA: The legendary Swedes have entered Sunlight Studio with the equally legendary Tomas Skogsberg (Dismember, Entombed, Dissection) producing to record their comeback effort, Back From The Grave. The material on this release has been described by the group as brutal as ever, and if you need a reminder as to how brutal they were check out last year's reissues of their classic releases Into The Grave (which also includes the Tremendous Pain 7") and You 'll Never See (which also includes the .And Here I Die.Satisfied EP). There will definitely be no love songs! Also on the band's horizon are a slew of German festivals including With Full Force, Fuck The Commerce, Smash Fest and Party-San Open air.

Sweden's heavy metal pioneers HammerFall have been working on their second DVD/VHS production for the last several weeks. It's called The Templar Renegade Crusades. It runs two and a half hours, and you'll find highlights from the last three years on it: the award of their gold record, live outtakes, backstage sequences and other surprises, culminating in a mixture of fun and heavy metal brought to you the HammerFall way. Iscariah recently sent Nuclear Blast this letter explaining his departure from Immortal.
In his own words... "Well, so this day came to an end despite its long and joyful hours. The statement I doubted would be written for a long time is here, and if you asked me directly why, I would not be able to give you a direct answer...because there is no definite reason why. I have basically followed my instincts and my gut feeling and came to the conclusion that I am leaving Immortal. This band has basically been my life for 3 years, and it feels like some strange divorce is being processed. The band is getting bigger and with that follows complete dedication to the force. If not, you are bound to fall on your ass. To prevent this event, I quit. It is of my beliefs that if you have a single doubt, then leave. Do not try to shape the band to your benefit. I am not retiring. I just want to do what feels right for ME. At this point I am still involved in several other bands, which I am willing to push far. Also a new cult act, which I now have joined, should be announced shortly elsewhere. However, none of these acts have anything to do with my departure. A new bass player has been recruited for Immortal, and he will be attending to the upcoming European tour and beyond. We are very optimistic about his skills and dedication, so I am sure he will be permanent. The band itself will announce within the coming days regarding who he is.I hail my brothers of this cult and I wish them the best of luck for the coming future events. From CENTURY MEDIA: European reviews so far for They Will Return have been very positive, including 8 out 10 in Rock Hard and 6 out of 7 in Hammer. The always eager Digital Metal once again lays claim to being the first American based website to review a release, this time by giving They Will Return an incredible review that sums up the group's music perfectly. Kalmah hope to do some extensive touring once They Will Return hits the streets, which is set for April 30. The group have revamped their Web site, and have plenty of information regarding the band, and the main page is now decorated by the artwork of They Will Return. The Kings of Metal MANOWAR, have announced their first North American tour in support of the long awaited "Warriors of the World". The first full length studio album since "Louder than Hell". Marduk has a new drummer! The replacement for Fredrik Andersson is Emil Dragutinovic and will soon start to work with the band on the new songs that are being written right now for the 8th Marduk full-length album. Word is that at rehearsals he has been ripping through such Marduk staples as "Jesus Christ...Sodomized", "Baptism By Fire" and "Beast of Prey" with such ferociousness and brutality that it's hard to find a fare comparison. In stores now is the limited edition Blackcrowned box set, which features two discs of rare and unreleased material, a video of even more rare footage (the band's first show!), and a killer booklet detailing the bands history, and is also filled with photos and never before published lyrics.

At present, details are a bit sketchy, but we expect the band to boldly cross the Rubicon in a bold pursuit of the Holy Grail of inverted, dark metal mysticism.

Non Exist have finished the recording of their debut full-length album, Deus Deceptor, which features ex-Arch Enemy frontman Johan Liiva. Twelve intense days of adrenalin inducing mayhem was all it took. Yes, according to vocalist Johan Liiva, "it was like taking a shit on a motorway". Well, we don't exactly know what that means, but obviously it was one hell of an intense session in the dark, trollish woods of Dalicarlia (Studio Abyss if you didn't know that already). Non Exist are auditioning for a bass player and a rhythm guitarist. "I think we have found a suitable rhythm guitarist", says Johan Liiva. "In fact, he's good enough to handle solo responsibilities. Hopefully, if we get him, he will make a great team of twin guitars together with Johan Reinholdz." Live dates are scheduled for spring. RAKOTH
FROM ELITIST RECORDS: We will be re-releasing "Planeshift", the debut album from Russian avant-garde maestros Rakoth. Code666 of Italy originally released it in 1999 where it was hailed by most who heard it to be a genuine masterpiece. We will be completely re-mastering this album, with the duties being handled by Tim Turan (who has previously worked with Emperor, Opeth and many more), there'll be brand new artwork and the first 3000 copies will come in a Digipac case. Rakoth will be recording their first album for Elitist in the early summer. No title or song titles are available at this time. Rustam of the band had the following to say about what direction the album might take: "The only thing I can say is that it's definitely less "fantasy" or "medieval" sounding than the previous albums. Personally I thought that it's absolutely different from what we did before but when I just let some various (independent) people listen to those unfinished pieces they all said "pure Rakoth!" Maybe it is the same "epic" and pompous vein... I think new material is more like "Planeshift" than "Jabberworks". Though, of course, it differs a lot from both". We'll let you know more as soon as we can.
