The Music Remains the Same-Tribute to Led Zeppelin 2002

In the last few years, tribute records have become a way for a label to issue a batch of retread material by a handful of artists, or a way for the band themselves to shamelessly pay tribute to themselves(see Kiss My Ass). In short, they have become a novelty & usually any copies sold have been impulse buys by last minute metal maniacs trying to use up their gift cards that they got for their birthday or Christmas. With this in mind, my expectations for this disc, weren't very high, in fact I braced for the worst! To my surprise, the opening track was "Kashmir" done by Angra, which has grown on me & has become one of my favorite tracks on this disc. One thing that is like a breath of fresh air, is the way these bands approached the songs, they did rework, rearrange & then put their trademark sound to the material. In now way do I get the indication that this is a compilation that was an after thought & filler Zeppe tracks were submitted by the artists involved. Unlike the "other" Zeppe tribute that I heard a decade or so ago, there is no band that didn't give their all. Other standout tracks Primal Fear doing their jacked up version of "The Rover," this one will send shivers up your spine, like having an ice cube stuck down your shirt in late December. While I am not a huge Doro fan, I found her version of "I'm Gonna Leave You," very true to the Zeppe version & very enjoyable to listen to, Elegy tackle "Rock & Roll," they put their own spin on the track, with some killer bass, drum & guitar pyrotechnics that will make you salivate like a bum in line at the local soup kitchen. Even "Stairway to Heaven," which I loath, is given a fresh different approach, this is serious stuff folks, listen for yourself.

I got it, the best covers are "Kashmir" and "No Quarter" in my opinion, because of the different arrangements from the originals, which are very well done.

Exactly, making a cover too similar to the original would have probably been a failure, they managed to throw some new arrangements in it and put a little bit more Metal feeling so that it's still a great song!
