The new All That Remains

Guys, this band is amazing!!!!

I really loved 'this darkened heart' and this new material sound very good.

The guitar players are catchy and with fantasy in the phrasing, the drums are solid and straightforward.

the only downside... ...Phil Labonte uses almost everytime the same rhythmic pattern when screams the 'hardcore' vocals. But he is much much better on the clean melodic so... ...good!:headbang:

Ehm... ...I would be concerned if metal music would blow me off my ass.

What a mess to clean after listening to a good record...

"blow me off my ass"...what the hell does that mean anyways?:loco:

Also, I wondered how their new stuff would sound since they got a new bass player and drummer. Reading their posts when they were looking for a new drummer on Myspace, it sounds like they wanted to go in a little different direction. They seemed to be all about blastbeats over breakdowns.

the new one is Adam D from killswitch and peter wichers from soilwork. apparently the new album is a soldano slo into a recto for rythm and cobra for leads. im pretty sure the last album was stock 5150 boosted.

I think it refers to the SLO going into a Mesa cab. Some were saying that it may have been slaved into a Recto, but I think it meant just a Mesa cab, or a Recto cab, if you will.

maybe, this is what phil said:

"Oh yeah guitar nerds. We used a Soldono SL100 head that was modded thorugh a mesa boogie. It's Jo-al's head and I'm not sure where he got it but it sounds AMAZING. The solo's were done with a Framus Cobra Head through a Mesa Cab. Both had a maxxon od-808 infront with EMG 81 pickups. Bass was a svt head with a rat pedal."

i assume it was slaved.

The overall sound is very good, but frankly this mix is hilarious - there's no attempt at all to disguise that the drums are totally replaced with samples, the snare sounds exactly the same on every hit, no ambience whatsoever. No problem with that if it comes from an industro-type outfit like ministry etc - but from a band who have a human drummer? no one can believe that they are hearing genuine drumming on this track!!!
IMHO it's the ambience in the drum tracks which normally gives some sense of space and makes the recording sound like a real band performing in a real space. This track just sounds like a cartoon of a band.
The song's cool except for that turning into a boy-band thing at the chorus which is way lame. It divides the song between two seperate moods but just doesn't develop one into the other, so it prevents the song working as well as it could on either level.

New one what? What's new?

The new CD. I think the stuff sounds pretty good.. not digging the clean vocals though. The drums do sound fake, and it's a shame because that dude is capable of playing like that without all that sound replacement. He used to be in a death metal band here in Richmond called War Torn.
