Personally, I agree with everything he said in that interview, and can understand exactly why he's chosen to stop. I feel that SYL did what it set out to do, and it would just tarnish the name to go on with it.
He's said before in past interviews that "At the end of the day, I want to be a big metal god, I don't want to be a musical genius. I just want to be a solid dude. I don't want to be a druggie or a deadbeat dad or some mysogenic prick, I just want to be a solid person."
That said, he jumped into the business at like 20 years old with Steve Vai's band, and in the past 14 years has produced, written, or recorded 35+ albums. The man really is a musical genius - his solo work is testament to that. Even if he stopped making music, period, we still have a ton of his stuff around - more than most people even dream of doing, and all of it is good.
As long as he continues to do the DTB, I'm fine with anything he decides to do.
