The new Evoken

Yeah, that's what I heard, what a shame. Turns out this and the new NM were big letdowns for some. I still really want to hear the new NM though because I like their direction from NeChrist, and I suppose some people prefer NM pre-NeChrist.

There's been a couple of other letdowns this year: Kreator and Nile. Before anyone jumps down my throat, I'm just saying that I was hoping for better.

Yes... perhaps. I've gotta say, the only album that truly lived up to my expectations was "Character", with "Verisakeet" following close behind. "Weltanshauung" is just as much of an EP to me as "The Taste of Victory" was...

Now you're overdoing it, how can you be so ungrateful to 2005's first hemisphere when it spawned Primordial, Pantheist, Moonsorrow, Red Sparowes, The Mars Volta, Bohren & der Club of Gore and some other less topnotch still enjoyable shit... I mean, I'd take those albums as my top 5 any year around, weren't there 6 of them!

Besides, I agree that "Antithesis of Light" is a bit of a let-down. I mean, it's neatly composed, well-produced, hard as stone, cold as night and stuff, but they're just unwilling to spend a single chord that would make one think "ha, now something is about to happen". The title-track begs to differ, best doom/death song in ages.

I have all of Evoken's stuff, and tbh, I'm not blown away by any of t, but it's good, f that makes sense.

Mouning Beloveth have released the best doom album so far IMO.

I don't dig Moonsorrow that much . And Bohren hasn't been released yet , so I don't officially know :p.Yeah , the rest is quite bonerific ..but it's no 2004 or 2002.Oh fuck this anyway..

naa, 2005 is kinda lame so far, but we have some key releases coming up.

I will admit we have had some GREAt releases though like Slough Feg, Primordial, Taake, Isole, and QOTSA.

Baahh! How could I forget to mention this one?

Let's not forget folks, hopefully the new Negura Bunget releases and the new Summoning album will kick our asses...

Anyone heard the new Evoken from this year?

Yes, it rules. Doom/death of the highest quality. All aspects of evoken are present from the clean guitar work they interweave in their songs to the spacious and absolutely crushing riffs. The keyboards might not be as prominent as in the past perhaps. Oppressing dirges give way to melodic leads that are riddled throughout each track. See the lead work that comes in 'descend the lifeless womb (one of the better tracks).' Recommended.
