The "OFFICIAL" UNOFFICIAL NIGHTRAGE thread

The new album Wearing a Martyr's Crown is growing on me more and more with each spin. Here's my ranking of the albums:

1. Descent Into Chaos
2. Wearing a Martyr's Crown
3. Sweet Vengeance
4. A New Disease is Born

Tompa was fucking amazing in Descent Into Chaos. I cant believe he left to concentrate on the Great Deceiver and Disfear... which are nothing special in my opinion (sorry Tompa). He cant seem to stay put with one band and I bet he regrets it. The new singer is ok but cant compare. Even though I dig the new album, a part of me hopes Tompa can find his way back as the lead.

New album was more boring then the longest Dream Theater song on their last album. Id rather go back listening to A New Disease is Born.

Shed the Blood is the only song worth listening to on the new album, A New Disease is born is still one of the better albums I've heard, even though Lindberg's era was absolutely phenomenal.

That new Dream Theater song is awesome and I never liked Nightrage. Mainly because someone who doesn't like metal told me about Nightrage when the first album came out and acted like it was original or something.

you guys are nuts. the new album destroys the last one. strimmel was a poser and a joke.

Indeed sir.

Every song is varied. They managed to nod toward the early melodeath sound, while maintaining a high level of moderization. Anthony is an amazing vocalist. The small amount of clean vocals he uses sound astounding, and give the band another dimension. Olof compliments Marios very well. The acoustic work is immaculate.

STING OF REMORSE!!!

I like the first 2 Nightrage albums, particularly Sweet Vengeance.

I feel Sweet Vengeance is a Melo Death gem, and deserves to be in a "top 10 Melodic Death Metal albums of all time list".

"The Howls of the Wolves" is possibly one of the greatest album closing instrumentals of all time. IMO.

However i dont care if there isn't anyone who agrees with me. Thats the beauty of metal. Nightrage might be amazing to me, but someone who loves Cattle Decapitation might hate them, and vice versa.

Agreed. Sweet Vengeance would be in my top 10 melodic death metal albums. There is not a single filler track on the album... every song is excellent.

Sweet Vengeance is the only one I own and it's decent. Never tried the other albums, though.

Perhaps this might be helpful

Descent into Chaos (2005) was the followup.

They aimed for a more straight forward, aggressive approach with that release. It is fairly good and offers some great tunes. Check out "Frozen" and "Poems". I wouldn't say it is as good as SV, but it is worth looking into.

A New Disease is Born (2007) was next. (I dont own it however)

But i've heard some of it. It followed the same path as Descent, but loosened the song writing up a bit, dropping some of the technicallity for catchiness. I stayed away from it because of the loss of Tompa and the vocalist they acquired at the time. I dont like him much.

Wearing a Martyrs Crown (2009) is their latest offering. Check out "Futile Tears" and "A Grim Struggle".

Refer to my post above. It is comparable to SV. Simply amazing.
