THE PRETTY RECKLESS frontwoman Taylor Momsen has admitted that she "thought about auditioning" for the vacant singer slot in STONE TEMPLE PILOTS. STP began a search for a new vocalist following the 2015 departure of Chester Bennington, who joined the band in early 2013 following Scott Weiland's exit. Asked by Alternative Nation in a new interview if she would ever consider singing for STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, Taylor laughed and said: "I thought about auditioning for that!" She added: "Honestly, I freaked out the rest of [THE PRETTY RECKLESS]. I called Mark [Damon, bassist] and Jamie [Perkins, drummer] and was like, 'Yeah, so I'm gonna go sing for STONE TEMPLE PILOTS now. And, yeah, so we're not touring anymore. Sorry, guys. This is it, my new gig.' And they bought it for a while. We fuck with each other all the time, but I actually had them for a minute." Momsen went on to say that she would "think about" throwing her hat in the ring as a candidate for the STP singer position. "But I like writing and playing my own songs," she said. "I love STONE TEMPLE PILOTS. I think they're fantastic… Maybe one show I would sing their songs." STONE TEMPLE PILOTS last year completed their online open audition submissions for a new singer. Many of the musicians who posted audition tapes also paid tribute to Weiland, who was dismissed in 2013 and who died on his tour bus in December 2015 while on a solo tour. The surviving bandmembers posted on the official STP web site that they had been listening to "thousands" of submissions. Bennington ended his time with STP in order to concentrate on his main act, LINKIN PARK, as well as spend more time with his family. Bennington recorded one EP with the band, "High Rise", and did a handful of tours during his tenure. In announcing the auditions, the members of STP wrote, "No one will ever 'replace' Scott; that was never the intent. The intent is for STONE TEMPLE PILOTS to continue on, to evolve, and to do what we do… make music!"
