The Red Chord Prey For Eyes
Metal Blade Barcode 039841462920 Out Now
By Dan Fisher
What the fuck is up with the drummer in The Red Chord? He is FAR too obsessed with blast beats. There are some brilliant riffs that are going to waste on this album because they are crying out for a certain groove in the drums that just dont come. Or, if the groove does come, it is immediately replaced by a shit blast beat version of it. A plea to all demolition teams out there: blast in moderation and use correctly! Having said that, there are some cool moments on this album which really endear you to the band. 'Send The Death Storm' and 'Midas Touch' are very cool and exhibit metalcore and even thrashy elements which actually work in the band's favour rather than diluting the content. There is also the epic closer 'Seminar' that is so incongruous to the rest of the songs but undoubtably brilliant. I really wish they had the kahunas to write more melodic stuff like this, they're wonderful at it. So, now I'm left wondering which direction the future may hold for The Red Chord. Judging by the songcraft here, the band have alot of music ideas bouncing around. If they could hit upon the right formula they may have something very special indeed.
