We've got a few new members so it's about time for a thread like this again. All of the regs reply too, because my memory is starting to go. :)

I live in the USA (West Virginia) and am 35 years old. I've been obsessed with music since I was about 9 years old (the first time I heard KISS's Double Platinum album). Metal is my favorite kind is music but not the only type I listen to... also like 70's and 80's punk, new wave, power pop, roots/americana, blues, and just plain rock n roll.

Good idea Greeno. This is another one that really everyone can contribute to.

Well, real name's Martin and I live in southern Germany. Bavaria to be precise which is as much of a separate state within Germany than the South is in the US. I'm 28 and Metal fan since I was 12 years old. My collection ranges from Winger to Marduk but that's basically all I listen to, even if I have a few soundtracks in my collection as well. Aside from music I'm interested in computers and I'm fascinated by football and piercings & tats. Oddly enough I have managed to have hardly seen any football matches yet (cause there is no football on German TV) and to have no tats and just two piercings so far. Sounds strange? It is! But that's me.

Eh, what the hell. My name is Matt, and I'm a mere 17 years old.

Cool, didn't know you were that young DG. It's nice having younger people like you and Trix and Fang around here. It's great knowing that another generation is into the older stuff and is keeping it alive. Lte's just hope that the gen AFTER yours will also keep it going.

My name is Darko, I'm 26 and I live in Split, Croatia.
I've been into music ever since I was a kid, but it all turned upside down when I was 12 and discovered (you'd never guess... :D) Iron Maiden.
I promptly started playing guitar, gathering as much metal albums I could (that was very hard here in those days, today anyone with an internet connection and half a brain can secure him(her)self for life) and listening to the every note on them. I quickly got into more extreme styles (death) but eventually got back to the good ol' HM. :headbang: That doesn't mean I totally ditched the extreme music, but HM and classic thrash are my taste.
Mind you, metal is not all I consume music wise. I absolutely worship Pink Floyd, The Doors, Janis Joplin, ABBA and lots more non-metal music...
Anyway, I've been active player on the local scene in the past 8 years and now I play in several bands, one of which is a HM outfit called Stimulans, you can find the link to our site in my sig and download our songs, if you feel like it. I'm also very much into music recording and producing and you can hear some of my efforts here and here.
I'm about to get a diploma soon and finally finish with school, yaaay... :D
Aside from music, I mostly enjoy watching Simpsons, Monty Python, Futurama, various movies and TV series, reading comics and riding a bike sometimes.

I listen to Heavy Metal in all of its sick forms Old New it doesnt matter ... from time to time I will even listen to some Doors,Beatles, stones and a handful of other "Classics" I walk a fine line between Happiness and depression all the time... hahaha hence my moodiness I am a recovering Alcoholic of 5 years and an Avid dope smoker :) I am hopelessly addicted to the net and I play Bass and Guitar I have a nice Lil Pentagram tatooed on my left shoulder ... some of my Favorite bands are Metal Church,Overkill,Death,Vintersorg,Testament,Suffocation,Obituary,Blaze ... you get the Idea :)

Nick is the name, and i'm 19 years old. I USED to be the young guy here, until younger guys started coming around. You bastards.

Anyhoo, i live for 7 things:myself, my loved ones(friends...well,some of them at least,my family, girlfriend if i had one, etc.) my future, my writing, radio, music and pro wrestling. That's right, music(particularly metal, classic rock and old school punk, but metal above all) is my passion and obsession. Pro wrestling is my OTHER passion and obsession, and has been since the age of 3. You may insert your obligatory anti-wrestling remarks *here*. Radio is also a passion and obsession. I just love the concept and ART that goes with it. I really do see great radio as an artform and a theater for your mind.

I'm currently attending college with Radio Broadcasting as my major and i keep technical theater open in case my radio dream falls through. Other interests include comic books and video games. Yes, i'm a nerd and have accepted that fact years ago.
As far as metal goes, i seriously listen to just about every sub genre there is, literally. But i have favorites and they usually are thrash, speed and just good old fashioned heavy fucking metal. I've been into metal since age 13. Before that i was into rap heavily, and then that started sounding old and not as exciting to me anymore and i just lost interest altogether. So, i searched high and low for other genres to get into and that led me to...alternative rock and techno. That was good one year phase, Then by the 8th grade, i discovered the beauty that is Metallica's Kill'Em All and Led Zeppelin's second album and that brought me to where i am today, musically. I see no signs of it ever getting old, as i discover new bands everyday, and i love the music way too much. I truly believe that this is who i am. Want to know anything else or want me to elaborate on anything, just ask.

Name: Michael
Age In Human Years: 33

I wasn't always into metal. I started out in the early 80's listening to radio hits in California like Thompson Twins, B-52's, General Public and shit like that. I got into Billy Idol a bit and liked his videos. One night a friend brought over some nice metal LPs and it was all over.

I was fortunate enough to meet a guy who dealt in the black market and as a senior in high school, he had over 5000 tapes and LPs. He was reserved about lending them out but I always returned them the next day and in perfect condition. I was one of the very few he would consider lending out to. I would stay up all night recording them and I acquired a large tape collection very fast.

I graduated and did 6 years in the military. I tried to go back to college but I was still too wild from the military and couldn't sit in a classroom all day. My current job (working on boilers) came at the perfect time, as I was trying to find another major to go after. I was tired of living with no money so when I got this job, I had a lot of catching up to do, musically speaking. I still buy tons of music and I listen to many different types of metal. That makes it very hard (and expensive) to keep up on everything.

Yo Wick, Dodens beats you as the poster child of the forum
****************************************************************

My real name is Rolando, I'm 37 (so I'm the older so far, except for Hawk that I know is the eldest ;) )

Born in Argentina, grew up in Costa Rica. I'm a Chemist, single, bald, short, inadequately endowed and ugly. I have a terrible temper, mostly depressive type and girls rather suicide than date me :D

Don't drink (alcohol), smoke, use illegal drugs or drink coffee. So buying CDs is my only vice :worship:

I started with metal back at the end of highschool and nowdays I can't conceive life outside metal. But I'm very picky and squared so I tend to like few bands and therefore my collection is small after all these years.

Real Name: Rob
Age: 35
Occupation: Professional Musician/Software Developer

My background is wide and varied. I'm into everything from music (my number one passion!) to hot rods and Harleys to computers to tattoos/piercings to weight lifting to wrasslin'. I am total gear nut and especailly LOVE vintage Marshall tube amps! :worship:

I got into heavy music at the tender age of 8 when I first heard KISS Alive!

I LOVE Jagrmeister, and German beer! I don't touch any drugs (but I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with them, unless they become a problem, but they're just not for me).

I pretty much listen to Metal all the time, with some classical, classic rock, and blues thrown in for good measure.

Motorhead :worship: is my favourite band and Lemmy :worship: is a huge influence on my playing style.

That's pretty much me in a nutshell!

Cheers!

Eh, what the hell. My name is Matt, and I'm a mere 17 years old. I come from a crappy little city in central New Jersey, and have been into Metal since I was 9. Right now, almost all of my money goes to music, and I have about 420 cds, From extremely raw Black Metal to Progressive Rock (just Rush though), and soon I'll buy some Classical CDs as well. My favorite genre is Thrash, and I've been exploring that quite a bit this year. Outside of music, I focus my studies on school, of course; I am a Senior this year, and doing fairly well. I hope to go to a good writing school and get a job in something to do with literature. I read, not as often as I like, but when I do, I read for hours and hours. Stuff like Tolkien and other fantasy, the 'classics,' mythology and political/philosophical. I also spend way too much time online...

Damn your that young Doden? I thought you were older the way you carry yourself sometimes in GMD lol ... You should of been Mod of GMD or Anonymous Nick.. better then you know who.. I can see you being fair and not closing threads left and right.. anyways its late at night so ill probably mention my bio on this thread tomorrow or later in week if peeps even want to read it...

This is a great thread. I was curious to know what y'all are up to myself! Here's a little bit about me:

I'm 30 years old. The proud father of our first baby girl, Ella. (She's a little over a year old now which I guess makes her a "toddler") I live in Kentucky and work as a sales rep for an oil company. My wife is a nurse and we've been married 7 years.

To say that I am a fan of music is a great understatement. I can't imagine life without music. I always have a soundtrack going through my head even if I'm not listening to or playing music. My father played guitar on the "Ralph Emery" show in the house band back in the 50's and got to play backup for many country legends. Johnny Cash and Waylong Jennings among them. So I have a STRONG passion for the guitar, in particular. I have been playing guitar since I was old enough to hold it without dropping it...my whole life, basically. I love ANY music that has guitars in it...that's basically my guideline. If it has a lotta guitars or a cool riff then I'm down with it. Pop, funk, rock, country, bluegrass, you name it. BUT MY FAVORITE MUSIC IS METAL!!!!!!!!!

My dad took me to a record store when I was little and told me to pick any album I wanted, which turned out to be Gene Simmons' KISS solo album. I liked the picture. From there, it was rock and metal all the way! I started on KISS, then the older neighbors kids got me into OZZY, then Motley Crue, and then Metallica...from there there was no stopping me...the Metal Mania had begun. I have loved metal since, and always will.

I should probably note that my favorite band of all time is the mighty VAN HALEN. Edward is in my mind, the coolest and greatest guitarist of all time. This is my opinion and will never change. I'm sure there are some better players or yadda yadda yadda but he is the full package. When I saw the JUMP video as a kid I decided that all I wanted to do was stand in front of the mirror and practice my goofy grins while playing...hahaha Sammy or Dave? NO Contest!!! DAVID LEE ROTH all the way. I love Sammy and Sammy era VH. I really do. But when people say that the songwriting is so much better with Hagar I have to wonder, are they listening to the RIGHT Van Halen songs? Forget Panama, Jump and all that.....what about ROMEO DELIGHT??? TAKE YOUR WHISKEY HOME???? Who can listen to ICE CREAM MAN and not just rock out?!?!?! Hagar era VH is great..but VH is no longer a hard rock band...that's all I'm saying...if you can hear VH in a dentists' office on "lite 106" or whatever, you ain't hearing Dave.

I also love food. Favorite foods are Barbeque, Mexican food, Pizza, and steak!

I also love guns. I don't really hunt myself, but it's not because I don't believe in shooting furry animals. It's really early...it's cold. It's wet...I don't wanna fuckin' go! But you gotta KILL IT to GRILL IT, people! Damn. I do like to fish, though.

I love anything that runs on gasoline and goes fast, too!

I guess that's about it....

Did you read this far?!??!

My name is Adam. I'm an incredibly old 22 years of age. I used to post under my real username (adammcauley100) on UM before I changed it to Victim of Deception. I reside in Ontario, Canada, and have since I was a very young chap of 3. I started a major in Mathematics in Waterloo, Ontario, but questioned whether that was what I wanted to do. Right now I'm majoring in English at the University of Toronto. Unfortunately my marks during the summer weren't good enough for me to get into this cool writing minor that I'll try to get into in the future. I've been writing reviews for ultimate metal for several months now, love it, and would enjoy doing something similar for a living (a magazine like Metal Maniacs would be a dream job). I'm a huge fan of metal and have been for a long time, but I enjoy other genres like progressive rock, older hard rock, some alternative and grunge, etc... I was a really good student in high school, but have found University a very difficult transition, though I'm in the middle of second year now after taking some time off. Some hobbies include music (obviously), reading, basketball, ping pong, walking my dog and eating big mac meals. I'm single and wouldn't mind a girlfriend, easy going and a little shy. Posting on UM is great fun...I like this board and the general discussion equally.

my name is luke, and i'm 31 years old

i'm a wholesaler of beers, wines and spirits/semi professional musician(hoping soon to be a pro full time!)

i live in a place called thanet, which is basically the arsehole of england-all the shit comes here!

i first started listening to metal when i was about 15.a friend of mine from school gave me a copy of master of puppets and i've not looked back since

my favourite genre of metal is still thrash, particularly the 80's stuff, but recently i've been getting into more progressive stuff(dream theatre)and more power metal.
i do listen to other music, some soul and blues, but its mainly metal.

fave singer is chris cornell,a singing god,and fave band is still metallica circa puppets/justice.damn what happened to them.

i'm not much of an internet guy,i really only post here,on the oldschool section, cause its cool as fuck.

i've got a wife and 4 kids at home, and 2 rabbits too-ted ,if you get time, bring your gun over,i'll give you some live target practise(on the rabbits that is).

as a few of you know,i sing in a band, and am currently trying to make it big in the metal worldthings are going well on that front-global domination beckons my friends!!!!

umm,cant think of anything else.

uh nothing much to tell

You can call me Dee :)
I'm 29.
I live just a bit south of Louisville, Ky. I enjoy horse back riding very much and try to ride as often as I can. I'm on the net way to much! Hahaha! I like movies and love S. King books. I like to cook and do needle work. I love doing things with my family and friends. Music is not my life, but an enjoyable part of it. I like a little bit of Death, Thrash, Doom, Stoner, NWOBHM, & I am willing to try anything new in music :)
Well, that's all you get from me

My name is Josh. I'm sure I'm the youngest on here.. 16 years old.. Please don't hold that against me..

I live in a small town in NSW, Australia and I'm in my second last year of school. My life revolves around my girlfriend and music. And I'm very proud of the fact that I've grown my hair long over the last couple of years :D

I've been into metal since I was about 11 or 12 and before that I was mainly into Grunge. I still listen to some Grunge as well as Rock and a little bit of Classical and Jazz Fusion but my favourite genre is the almighty METAL!! In all its forms.

My favourite bands are Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath (Mainly Ozzy era), Ozzy Osbourne, Sepultura (With Max of course), Fear Factory, Symphony X, Children Of Bodom, Dio, In Flames, Led Zeppelin, Metallica (Old of course :)), Slayer, Joe Satriani etc. And bands such as Tad Morose, Vanden Plas, Blind Guardian, Nightwish, Iced Earth, Opeth will be joining them soon :)

I've been playing guitar for about 7 or 8 years and drums for about 5. I'm the drummer in a band (We've been playing together for about 3 years) We play a fair bit of Hard rock and Grunge but I can sometimes convince them to play some Traditional Metal stuff. My girlfriend's our singer and she's also into Traditional heavy metal so we can gang up on them :D

Favourite drummers - Igor Cavalera, Raymond Herrera.
Favourite guitarists - Randy Rhoads (R.I.P.), Joe Satriani, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, Andreas Kisser, Michael Romeo, Alexi Laiho, Zakk Wylde, Steve Vai and the list goes on..
Favourite singers - Bruce Dickinson, Russell Allen, Dio, Burton C. Bell.
Favourite bassists - Steve fucking Harris!

I would love to be a professional musician one day but it's a very hard thing to do these days, so I'll probably end up doing something in Physics/Chemistry/Maths which I really enjoy and do well in at school (I just don't enjoy them as much as music)

I love coming on here because all you guys and gals teach me heaps about old school metal as a lot of you are lucky enough to have been teenagers when metal was at its peak.

Thanks for reading :D
And as I said before.. Please don't hold my age against me..

Hey kidz!!!!!!

I'm Trent (aka Trixx!) and I'm 21 years old, turning 22 next month! I live in Melbourne, Australia in the lovely leafy South Eastern suburbs haha.

I have a Bachelor of Contemporary Arts (Media Arts) for a Film & TV course but finding paid work doin that in Australia is tuff so I'm doing stuff for free (video clips for a glam band I'm friends with who are UNREAL and startin to get big and a film being made about heavy metal culture, racism & gangs in the dingy western suburbs of Melb in the early 90s!) while I'm working for Vodafone during the day to get money!

I'm tryin to put a new glam band together with my friend Conan (aka Connie Fixx!) but its hard to find the right people coz we dont want it to be average or just good enough we wanna be unreal and blow everyone away and its hard to find people with the right look & attitude who can play! Before that I was playing in a hair metal tribute band for a little while which didn't last long...

I spend most of my free time trying to party & rock out as much as I can while I'm young! See lots of hard rock & glam bands and go to rock clubs as much as I can guzzling as much Jack Daniels as I can afford to, usually dressed up like somebody off Sunset Strip in 1987 with skin-tight leather, hairspray, eye makeup, bangles, cowboy boots etc! I'm single at the moment and kinda wanna settle down with a girlfriend right now (at least until I'm a big rock star!!!)

Other interests... as you could guess by doing a film & TV course, I love movies. Big '70s & '80s horror movie buff, also love 80s teen flicks & comedies and old sexploitation flicks alot... basically I'm very much into trash cinema, love the cheap, trashy stuff but also LOVE films like Taxi Driver, Death Wish, After Hours.. always into films with a real atmosphere about them that take me to another era or place rather than new films for some reason. To me its all about escaping to some other dangerous & exciting place or world. If I wanted to see stuff relating to the state of the world today I'd just watch the news, NOT INTERESTED! Same goes with music its all about ESCAPISM and entertainment!

Fave bands? KISS by far are my #1, got over 30 albums by them, tons of videos, shirts, posters, flags, figures, comics, fanzines, books, seen them 7 times and seen Bruce Kulick 3 times, go see the local KISS tribute bands every single show they play... other faves Motley Crue, Ratt, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Vain, Poison, Alice Cooper, AC/DC (homegrown Aussie heroes!), Vinnie Vincent, Judas Priest, Shotgun Messiah, Iron Maiden, Skid Row, Britny Fox, Danger Danger, Warrant, Hericane Alice, Keel, Black N Blue, Poison, Slaughter, Sic Vikki, Treat, Tuff, Harem Scarem, Guns N Roses, The Deadthings, Dio, Firehouse, Whitesnake, Winger, Dokken, Cinderella, Pretty Boy Floyd, Lizzy Borden, WASP, TNT, Roxx Gang, Heaven's Edge, Vixen, Erotic Suicide etc. All that kinda stuff!!!!

And if I rambled a little too much tonite its coz I'm a little drunk!

Rock on!!!!!
