Since everyone is talking about sub-par classic prog bands, I am going to bring up some good classic rock. THE VELVET UNDERGROUND. Anyone else a fan? The first record is brilliant, and blows any prog band out of the water.

parts of Lou Reeds Rock n Roll Animal is the only thing I ever heard I liked. My memory of Velvet Underground stuff was the equivilent of listening to a garbage disposal

You are missing out on some of the best non-metal recordings ever. The first record with Nico is what I am talking about.

Which is what then ? It seems to me from what I remember it would be a risky investment for me. Werent they also in many songs a prelude to punk ? Lou's not much of a singer, I read up on them last night and it seems vocal duties were shared. RnR Animal is great for the instrumental jams because it was Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter on guitars, many of the songs were old VU songs but had spunk, rather than drone. There was alot of hoopla about the VU in the early 70's when Bowie and Reed gained success but upon various few obtaining some of their material here and there, I recall most of us not getting it. I think its part of the 60's drug cult thing that was more about being odd than music.

Name some songs and I'll see if I can find them laying around the net... "someplace"

Yes, it's an obvious milestone in rock history. It's odd though, I've been listening to this album all morning after not playing it for months and then I come in here and I find this thread.

Admittedly, I put it on because I was dying to hear "heroin"

and another thing, "run run run" is a completely fabulous song. the solo alone is one of the best things ever. who does shit like that?

Sunday Morning, I found it, its alright but that stuff was never for me after a certain age. This particular song reminds me of Herman Hermits meets Dylan.

So far Run Run Run is nothing I havent heard before either, kinda like Chuck Berry meets Dylan meets the Momas and the Poppas

Sorry guys, I came, I listened, now I leave.

my all-time favorite is the live 1969 double disc set. there's really nothing better in music and the epitome is the song "ocean"

if someone can hear any kind of hermins hermits in that masterpiece they should really go see a doctor.

run run run is not chuck berry meets anything. some people are so stupid
