Theocracy "I AM" versus Stratovarius "Alpha & Omega"

It seems that the general idea is similar in both songs, though I notice some differences in how this is presented.
Lyrically, I think I Am contains much more 'poetic complexity', if you know what I mean. Also, for a song that is clearly about the (Biblical) God, Alpha and Omega contains very little Biblical references, other than "Alpha & Omega", "First and Last", etc.
As we all know, I Am contains heaps of deep references...
I don't know Stratovarius well enough to say anything about their motives, but this is definitely one of the more religious songs I've heard from them.

Well, musical differences are more a matter of taste I guess. Both songs sound majestic (and for a good reason too) but achieve this in a different way; I Am contains these massive choirs, while Alpha and Omega uses a slow, solid beat. Personally, I think I'm more of an 'I Am-guy' (it's a thing!:D), both because I don't like Stratovarius' mixing too much and because Alpha and Omega feels a little empty, the only hook that got me is how the solo starts off, but overall, I think this song will become really boring to listen to after a while. (which is sadly also the case for many songs on Elements pt. 1). I LOVE their last two albums though, especially Elysium.

I might give Alpha and Omega some more spins tomorrow, as I've never heard the song before and it's 2:15 am now. Maybe then I'll be able to come up with some more specific differences.:p

I've never been able to get into Stratovarious because I don't like the singer (his vibrato is too wide and he is off-pitch a lot). The songs are the same basic idea, I guess. Personally I think I AM is a vastly superior and more interesting piece of music (as biased as that may sound).

Obviously there are similarities, but in terms of quality, there's no comparison at all. I mean, I know, LOL FANBOY and all, but come on! Even if you set aside the fact that the lyrics of I AM are more elaborate and thought out, the music of Alpha and Omega is kind of.....dull. Flat.

Interesting that Stratovarius did that song though. I wonder what their religious views are.

I think the answer to that question can be summed up in one short song:

And maybe this one:

Timo Tolkki was always into very personal revelation mysticism, hated organized religion, I believe he referred to the diety he believed in as "Mother Gaia", Jens Johansson has always been anti-theist in general, and Timo Kotipelto I think just wrote about what interested him.
